Scott Kilvert Hut

Hey Guys

Me and my 6 year old wandered over Hanson Peak and then through to Scott Kilvert Hut for the night on Anzac day, then back out on the Tuesday. We had perfect weather for the two days and with the Fagus turning made for some very enjoyable walking.

I especially enjoyed the walking from the junction of the Face Track through to Scott Kilvert, it's a truly beautiful area back there!

I just snapped some pics on my iPhone and thought I'd share a few...............

Just came back there myself with a party of 3 adults (including me), a 12 year old boy, two 9 year old girls and an almost 7 year old girl, all staying in tents.
Pretty cool thing to do eh? Well done to you, and especially to your 6 year old!

Great stuff, Phil! It's so much fun getting out there with the kids. I reckon when mine are 6, Scott Kilvert will probably be a good choice - thanks for the idea. How long does it take with a 6 year old? I'm finding that with a 4 year old, I have to allow for slightly more than double the recommended times on easy tracks.

We had an awesome time!! Can't wait to do it more often as the kids get older!!

I actually noted all the times (just out of interest), it took us 1hr 15min to get to Hansons Peak where we stopped for lunch for 30min. It then took 30min to get to the Ranger Hut (Emergency Hut). From there, 1hr 30min through to Scott Kilvert with a few short breaks along the way for drinks and lollies etc!! So we had left the car park at 11am and arrived at the hut at 2:45. It was pretty much identical timing on the way back out.

Our party took 4 hours to reach Scott Kilvert from Dove Lake.

So we did it in a comparable time then, sounds about right.
