Here's some shots from my recent week-long A-K traverse of the Western Arthurs. All in all it was a pretty epic trip but unfortunately the weather didn't really cooperate, with 6 days of solid rain and mist...

If you're interested there's more pics and a full write-up on my blog http://peopleandotherstrangecreatures.wordpress.com/2013/04/14/western-arthurs-traverse-southwest-np-tasmania/.

Shot with an EM5, m.ZD 12mm, Nokton 25mm, m.ZD 45mm and m.ZD 75mm.

I liked the last one too, it meant we weren't being rained on any more :D

Nice write up Nick. Bought it all back, except the weather descriptions :)

Fantastic, thanks Nick.
Glutton for punishment? Day after an Overlander. What a life.

How did you find the EM5?
The weather would have been to its liking.
Have you written any comments anywhere on your lenses?

I've got a very short collapsible tripod, about 150mm folded which I find very useful. I leave it on at times and serves as a 'handle' too. Makes for very quick setups when needed.

So yes, a great walk and photos.

Hey mate, I'm loving the EM5 so far (having come from nearly two years with a GH2) - compact, fast, reliable and very good image quality (compared to my mate's 5DII the difference was really down to individual editing). Unfortunately I don't have any sealed lenses so I can't really comment on how effective the weathersealing was :?

I've written a fair bit about the lenses I use in the past - basically all the Micro Four Thirds primes I've used have been fantastic (thats the m.ZD 12mm, Lumix 14mm, Nokton 17.5mm, Lumix 20mm, Nokton 25mm, m.ZD 45mm and m.ZD 75mm) and I also use and enjoy the Lumix 7-14mm ultra-wide zoom. Were you curious about anything specific?

I was going to bring a lightweight carbon Gitzo tripod with Sirui ball-head but I carried them on the Southern Ranges and used them once... Maybe I should be more committed :D

Nice work Nick.
Favourite photo defineately moody Procyon Pk above Sirius-Orion ridge. The dark cloud above frames it beautifully.

Good job enduring 6 days of rain, that must be mentally exhausting.

Yes I realised after posting those lenses weren't weather proofed.

I love mine too but at moment only have the 12-50 lens which will deflect moisture.
Agree Olympus ought come up with some decent (quality) weather sealed alternatives to those lenses you mentioned.

I did read your past comments on the GH2 and looked at the GH3 as a result, but was swayed by a rather long discussion with the camera shop bloke who settled me into the EM5 and fact he didn't have a GH3 in shop.
I gather the GH3 is weather sealed but bigger than EM5. Overall probably boils down to preference.

Thanks for the comments everyone :)

The Procyon shot is one of my favourite's too, and yep, the weather got old after a while. At least it wasn't particularly cold until the last day on the range.

Definitely... They also use the same sensor and have near-identical RAW performance, so at the end of the day it's really just about which style you prefer. It's great having the options in such a young system!
