This is a photo from a family Australia Day walk in the Dandenongs.
The littlest walker is my grandson......not quite 2 years old and he already gets excited when we wander into the bush.
He does have it easy though perched on his Dad's back in an Osprey Poco .

They are on Paddy-Pallin's eBay for a pretty good price ($174.96 delivered). Worth every cent for the pleasure that comes from bush walking with the little tackers.

Here's one from when our youngest was 4 months (she's in/under the spotted rain coat... hard to see). It was wet and cold... and hard! More from that walk here.

Wow....Son of Beach that's what I call hard core family bushwalking.
I must show this one to my son in law........we might just get an overnighter done with my grandson yet

I wouldn't recommend walking like that, though. Although it was a great trip all up, the walk to/from the hut with those ridiculous loads was painful. Thankfully, it was not far, which is what made it worthwhile, and we had a day in between to relax at the hut and to do short walks without heavy loads.

Agree totally!! My granddaughter has been out crawling round in the bush since 6 months old. She has now progressed to walking with her own pack and ready for her first overnighter in a couple of months. She is 6 years old now.

That is fantastic SoB! And to think I've met people who hardly leave the house with their little ones, at least in the first few months. It must have been tough for you and your wife too, coz of the amount of extra stuff to carry for the baby.

I haven't done any overnighters with my cub yet, but have done a bit of camping. He likes tents as much as I do.

We did do a lap of Dove Lake on a cold and rainy day and he snug and warm up back.

I can recommend the Macpac Vamoose. You may find one second hand somewhere. I did a bit of a review here.

The storm cover looks great. Much better than the dodgy and poor-fitting rain cover we nicked off our pram at the last minute when the forecast looked wet.

Seems like only yesterday he was wrapped tightly in blankets swaying in my hammock,
in the child carrier on my back, hood up protected from the sun wind & rain,
tripping over every blade of grass, seed pod/stick on the ground....now look at him, heading towards the ripe old of 4.

So those baby carrier packs. Do they protect from all elements, e.g. Sideways rain? It seems they have canopy type covers but not fully enclosed, waterproof???

Absolutely not waterproof. We got caught out in a shower at Arthurs Seat a few months back and I sacrificed my raincoat over the top of the shade cover and pack to keep Bub warm and dry. No reason why you cant just use a regular pack cover for this situation- we will be in future...
