SW Cape Circuit 2009 - Part 5 - Island Bay

Sun 07 Jun, 2009 11:31 am

Part 5 - Island Bay and on to Noyhener Beach.

Just to the north of Window Pane Bay, and about an hour’s walk away, is a small rocky cove called Island Bay. The route to Noyhener Beach passes fairly close by so you can make it a side trip on the way, but a more relaxed way to visit is to make it a day trip from Window Pane Bay.

Although the pad from Window Pane Bay to Noyhener Beach is reasonably well defined there is no track to Island Bay so you have to find your own way. It’s a very steep scramble through light scrub to get down to the waterline - the last 20 metres or so is really steep. Fortunately someone had left a fixed rope for the last bit down to the rocks!

I had magnificent weather on the day – clear blue skies, calm sea and low tide.

Rocky coastline just south of Noyhener Beach. In calm weather you can scramble along the rocks to the beach.

More great photos Lex, making me very keen to get down to the cape area.
If only I didn't already have so many other trips lined up...
Thanks again for sharing, a nice motivator whilst I sit here in my stuffy office.

Cheers.
Stu.

Another top series Lex, looks like a very interesting and varied place to be photographing.

Thanks guys. I was really lucky on the day- fabulous weather, calm sea, low tide, the whole place to myself and all the time in world. Next afternoon there was a massive thunderstorm, lightning, torrential rain, wild seas, the works, but by then I was comfortably camped at Murgab Creek and ready to take advantage of the new photo opportunities provided by the wild weather :D

Great photo's again Lex. I don't know if I can ever count on getting down that way; your photo's make me envious.

Glorious. If only it was possible to plan the weather as well as the walks . . .
