Thanks Eggs! the last one is of Mt Picton hiding in the clouds! It only came out briefly a couple of times! The summit of Riveaux is a very rocky little tower. No views all day until you pop up out of the forest on top of the summit! A very nice little peak!!

I was up Picton on Saturday and on the drive home was wondering about how to access Riveaux. Is there a track off Riveaux Rd or one of the other logging roads in the area, or did you just scrub bash? I have heard that it is very scrubby area.

How did you go up on Picton? I was up there a few weeks ago and had a bit of fun from Steanes to the top.....

Riveaux there is a track of sorts. Park at the end of Riveaux road (locked gate) Walk for about 30mins along the road you will come to another gate (open) shortly past this on the left there is a little cairn on the side of the road. Tags go up from here. It is quite scrubby along the ridge, but tagged the entire way.

Thanks for the info. Picton was good. Didn't quite have time to get to the top - went off following the cairns past Steanes Tarn (I presume that is the one in the morainal plateauy bit just below the peaks) instead of heading straight up and decided we had reached out turnaround time. Weather okay - just sunny enough to remind us to use sunscreen next time. Very wet through forest with slimy tree trunks - uurgghh yukky! As you could see from your photos still a little bit of snow and possibly even enough for a bit of a snow slide on teh steep bit at the top - but as I said - we didn't get there to try it out.

Nice! Yup fair bit of snow, I was up there about 3 weeks ago, followed the cairns you mentioned for a bit, then they seemed to stop. I meandered about in the mist and just ended up making my way to the summit. had to climb through a fair few snowy patches falling up to my waist at times.
If you go back id recommend going straight for the summit from steanes!

Agreed on remembering sunscreen next time. I got quite burnt on my walk on Saturday in the highlands!!
