G'day all - just back from 6 days in the Pelion - Thetis area. I've uploaded some photos to Picasa (accessed below).

I've also posted a brief "colour" story on my blog http://auntyscuttle.blogspot.com/2010/0 ... -time.html

Enjoy!

Looks like you had good weather. I particularly liked the Pelion sunset shots. Looks like a great camp site in Thetis saddle. Water to be had there?

Hi kanangra - yes the weather was superb, possibly TOO hot. The march flies and mozzies were fierce!

We got water from two sources. One was a shallow pool on a sandstone shelf about 500m from the camp (see pic below). I suspect it only had water because of a good fall of rain a couple of days before. The more reliable source of water was a soak with a scoop dug out beneath it about 50m from the camp. It's a little tricky to find, but is beneath where the slope levels out, near the pencil pine grove in which we camped. It took a little while to get water, but seemed to have a steady flow. Knowing the water issue, we took a number of large foil water bladders so we'd be able to collect a day's supply at a time.

cheers

Sorry - the link to the album changed. The Thetis trip should be viewable at http://picasaweb.google.com.au/auntyscu ... hetisTrip#

... not sure if you need a Picasa or Google account to view them. If anyone out there can tell me, please do!

cheers

Very nice Peter,

Just got back from an aborted attempt at the same trip, your pics inspire me to have another go next summer.
P.S. I wouldn't complain about the weather you got - Thetis never emerged from clag for my whole trip!

Cheers, sbs

Thanks sbs - I should count myself lucky to have been there twice (over many decades) and to have had stunning weather both times. It really has been an incredible summer and autumn weather-wise, so you must have just been out of luck :(

It is worth persisting!

cheers
