WOW! Beautiful photos Dave! The diverse forms of fungi are amazing. I find it a little ironic that there is so much interest here in photos of beautiful fungi, yet in scientific circles there is a paucity of knowledge of native fungus due to the lack of people studying mycology.

I think I miss the smaller (macro) picture sometimes, such an abundance of detail and richness of colour.

Having been through Ironstone to Turanna and Fisher Bluffs over Easter it was nice to see your extended trip report, it's a beautiful area and off track walking doesn't get much easier or more pleasant. Must get back there again some day, after the other 20 trips already planned that is

I'm planning a similar trip in late June (solo Lake MacKenzie - Mersey Forest Rd via Walls and Lake Meston), I don't suppose you'd have any tips?

Easy going to Lake Gwendy/Lake Lexie/Pencil Pine Tarn area - then work out where to cross the Long Tarns (you can cross at each end or in the middle in various places) - still easy walking. Then either left or right around the Daisy Lakes/Lake Nutting area (both ways are nice - some scrubby pacthes - but it is possible to walk around them) - then find open elads to the bottom (left end) of Lake Tyre - then around it a bit - then follow easy open leads down to open meadows (swampy) leading to the Walls (Under Mt Jerusalem)

At The Walls - I like to go to Meston via the Wild Dog Ck campsite - just below the campsite - I cut off the corner to the track to Lake Adelaide (nice and open to start - then very short scrubby bit (follow animal tracks down) to an open moor - the cross it to get to the track.'

May be snowy in June?

Yeah I'm thinking about the snow. Unfortunately Uni commitments mean I can only do it in June/July... I spose the best plan is to wait for the weather and then take enough food to be snowed in for a few days
