Frozen Central Plateau - July 2011 - LOTS OF IMAGES

Postby shazcol » Mon 25 Jul, 2011 9:28 pm

A quick resize of some of the photo's I took over the weekend. Sorry about the white balance on some of them but time only allowed a quick resize and post.

We had no real plan but ended up doing a loop up via Lady Lake hut through to Lake Nameless hut and the next day across the plateau and up the south west side of Ironstone to the trig point and then down the North West side to the hut and down via the Western creek track to avoid doing any retracing. Only needed the snow shoes for about 1/3 of the trip. Snow was reasonably hard generally.

Beautiful shots, Shazcol.
I've been through that area but never seen the plateau blanketed in snow...mmm, might have to put on my "to do" list!
Unless I'm mistaken, the hut in your last shot would be Whiteley's Hut.

I think that is it's name.

Here is the Ironstone hut we stayed in on the southern side of Lake Nameless. It is just below 40 Lakes Peak that can be easily climbed once you arrive for fantastic views. It was rebuilt in 1995 by the Mountain Huts Preservation Society and they have done a great job with it. A fantastic little hut to spend the night in. Both huts have toilets nearby.

Amazing shots there.

Getting the best of both worlds down there at the moment.

Love the ice crack too, the ice flow was special as well.

thanks for sharing :)
