TIP: The online
Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Recently got my MB XL down jkt - so small, so light, so cozy. At 160ish g, it weighs half as much as my shirt, and 1/5 of the weight of a similar warmth pile jkt. A "no brainer" for me. Chuck your raincoat over the top, and you'll be warm as toast in 3 seasons. I figure that putting my Bozeman MW Coccoon over the top of this, and that'd be perfect for ski touring in Australia.

http://www.montbell.us/products/disp.php?p_id=2301344900 loft down! thats incredible.
The 25 DWR wash cycle shouldnt be a problem if only used as a mid layer.
So you plan to forgo a fleece layer with this setup?

I've used this jacket for a year now and it's one of my favourite pieces of gear, particularly warmth to weight ratio. It packs down to the size of a mango (and a small one at that) and has replaced my fleece. For example, for 0 - 5 degrees I wear a Silkbody base layer, 260 weight merino mid and the montbell as the insulation layer. Ironically my mid layer now weighs twice as much as my insulation layer ! With a beanie this has been my go to camp set up for winter in NSW. For 5 - 10 degrees I can potentially forgo the mid layer and be fine just with the Montbell and the base layer.
Andrew I'm sure you're going to be happy with it !

I'm happy with blackrock down beanie, 200 weight icebreaker, ex light jacket and hard shell down to about ~5 degrees and is great to sleep in. Perfect ultralight jacket- no pockets, zips etc

The MB xl jacket is superb for camp; a bit too fragile for most walking. I am also using a MB UL Wind Jacket at 76g for Large over a 100 weight fleece for cold weather walking with a light base (< 10 degrees). If anybody is thinking about MB clothing you should be aware that the US sourced stock is a larger fit than the Japanese product but you should still consider sizing up one size and is possibly cut a little short for really tall, skinny bods.
