After 20 years of use, or thereabouts, with a trip tp NZ coming up, I have decided to look for a replacement of my Trangia. Gas seems to be the way to go, have looked at the Jetboil, looks very nifty. However, Kovea solo seems to fit my bill, or something similiar. Can anyone reccomend a cookset to complement, one thats lightweight, compact, easy to clean, etc.

Welcome to the forum you will get lots of and varied reply's I think
The Kovea Solo is a good start and the rest depends on what you really want to do cooking /food wise
for instance if you only want to eat "freeze dried" just add water any simple billy "will do the job" however if you want to "gourmandise " you will need at least two billies.
For what it is worth my basic set up now is a 550 ml Tibetan Titan mug with lid coupled with a cheap 500ml screw top plastic container which fits inside perfectly and they fit inside a 900ml Evernew Titan "pasta pot" total 253 gm .
Tibetan only ever has water or black tea,plastic is used for COS or to re constitute 2min noodles and the 900 ml is used for "cooking" home dried meals or even re packed stuff from tins all heated on my stove of choice now a Fire Maple FMS - 100T .
If you can find them there is also a lean on this forum towards the Aluminium billies which are really cheap and not heavy ,my only concern regarding aluminium is that I can "scour" my titan with sand/mud or gravel with little damage which I cannot do with aluminium.
Be interested to see what others think/use.

I'm in the same position w.r.t. A stove - where do you find the Fire Maple stoves? They look good but I haven't been able to track one down

Can recommend the FMS-116T as the lightest stove I own and it has a nice big burner head.

Ooooh. I just noticed the 117T. Now that's a nice looking stove to sway me from my moonwalker. Nice weight too. Corvus have you got one of those (or anyone with feedback )

No I dont have one and remember it does not have a "heat exchanger" if you want to use it in Alpine conditions (nice stove though).

As has been mentioned, there are many views on which stove/pot system is best, I posted this comparison between Trangia, MSR Whisperlite and a Kovea gas stoves a few years ago.
Choosing a stove/pot system depends on what style of cooking you do, do you just want to boil water to rehyrate meals, reheat meals or do some proper cooking.
If you want to just boil water for drinks and rehyrating meals or reheat small meals then one of the new JetBoil Sol systems is a very good option, they are very efficient, quick, good in windy conditions, work well in the cold and for the weight of your Trangia stove alone, you could probably cook for a month with the JetBoil. The JetBoil Sol Ti is the lightest JetBoil option but some users are having problems with the flux rings melting.
I use a Kovea Supalite for three season use and a Coleman Extreme for very cold snow use (the Extreme stove is no longer available). I have used a, Kovea Eagle, MSR Pocket Rocket, and a Firemaple FMS-116T but prefer my Kovea Supalite.
As for pots, it is personal preference, I have found that when reheating meals in Titanium pots I usually get some burning of the food on the base, this also happens a bit with my Ally pots but it is not as bad and is easier to clean off, I have many Ti, SS and ally pots and I just keep going back to my cheap ($7-$12) ally pots that I got from my local Camping World shop. Unless you get some very thin Ti pots from the US Ally pots are lighter too.
Gas stoves suffer a lot in windy conditions so if you are cooking outside a good windscreen is essential, this can be a problem with an upright canister stoves, I use some tooling fool that was sent to be from the US but it is very hard to get here, but there are a few other options some MYOG windshield and I have seen some taller windscreens in camping shops, they are a bit heavy but effective.
One option you have is to convert you Trangia to gas

Thank you all for your input. Very good info indeed. Gas is pretty much the clear winner, with caveats of course.
