WOJ tent platforms

Tue 01 Nov, 2011 6:50 am

Hi there,
It is nearly that time of the year when I try to make my annual escape and head south. I am thinking of heading to the Walls :D Just wondering as to the tent platforms at Wild Dog Creek- can anyone tell me if they would be big enough for my Shangri-la 5 mansion? And how do the pyramid style tents go on them- I am guess some nice strong cuphooks would do the trick??? I can always take a littler tent but was thinking a bit of luxury in terms of space would be nice. Any other tips?
Cheers
Lizzy

The platforms can take two microlights no problem at all.
Does that give you a scale ?

There is also the new plastic platforms(plus old wood ones) up in the commercial area, you can use them other then when stipulated on the sign, which I think said you can use them other than Tues to Thur , Oct - Apr. Will stand corrected on those times but I know they are free to use on weekends. Cup hooks might not work on those. Cup hooks work really well, thank you whoevers idea that was. Used them at WOJ and also on the helipad at Lake Vera.

From PWS website;

Bushwalkers must carry a tent. Huts within the park are small, in poor condition and suitable for emergency shelter only.

There is a camping platform and composting toilet at Wild Dog Creek. We recommend that walkers camp here in preference to Dixons Kingdom.

None there when I was there a couple of weeks ago.
There is timber placed there, further up towards the gate further past the dunnies.

Most of the platforms are larger (doubles) with a couple of singles from memory. You would have to have a huge tent to go off the edges I would think?
Having said that if you had a very long tent it could go over the end maybe. They vary a bit in size.
The tent in this pic is very very small!

Thanks Guys,
Photos look glorious- can't wait to get out there. I think I will go with my smaller 2-man dome style tent- bit cosier and easier being freestanding. Will save the Shangri-la for when I bring the troops (they are growing by the day :) )

Just back from a week up at the walls.
No Platforms at Dixons yet, but the timber is still in piled up.
It was only a matter of time before platforms were erected after the placement of the Toilets.

We stayed mainly in huts, Dixons a bit Draughty and were visited by the resident possum at night.
Lake Ball again a bit draughty no fireplace but a sorta cool kitchen area.
Meston Hut a 5 Star hut In my opinion, fireplace, windproof and bunks. Still yet to get down to Junction Lake Hut but
am planning to get there next walk.
