TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Macpac Ravine

Does anyone (Cam?) know what happened to the Ravine. I saw on an earlier post by Cam that it was coming back for 2011, I bought one but it has now disappeared of the shelves and Macpac's site.
Why the short life span?

My first pack was a Macpac Ravine - different to the modern Ravine that I saw a few years ago. It lasted me nearly 20 years and is still a good pack, just that I decided to replace it because I know how much weight has been carried on those straps and didn't want to risk gear failure somewhere remote. It isn't showing any signs of failing, it has been a great pack!
Photo of it in action back in 2005, HERE.

It was 65 litres, I now have a 75L Cascade.

Big Ravine fan - I bought mine in 1998 (when made in New Zealand) and its still going strong for my longer trips. The longest I've done with it is 14 days in Tassie - 65 litre, simple, strong and the nylon version weighs 1.5kg.

They still make them mainly for the school/knock about hire market. Best to ring and ask direct. Not sure why they don't market them anymore on the website.

In short, great pack but sales were too low to justify keeping it in the line. We sell about 10 cascades to one ravine..there will be a revised ( lighter ) single sac in the line, but we're selling through the current ravine.

Thanks for that.

I bought one of the ravines about 6 months ago. If you go to the macpac website I think they are selling the remainder at discount in the 'clearance' section of the site.
