Dehydrating Prawns

I would like to dehydrate a chilli sate pawn dish and just wondering whether to chop, mince or leave the prawns whole. Prawns dried whole are available at the supermarket and are used in Asian cooking.
But most of the meals I dehydrate, the meat is usually coarse minced.

Any advise appreciated, anyone have experince in drying a prawn meal.

Thanks for that, in the video, he left his whole, once he remembered to remove the tail.

Will try that and see how it goes. looking forward to it as it will be something quite different for camp food.

Why not make the dish sans-prawns and simply add supermarket bought ones after dehydrating?

Prefer to have the prawns in with the meal, being made tomorrow then will check out the dried version the following week. Could also check out making the meal and adding supermarket dried ones when rehydrating, will need to ask the cook.

How did the prawns turn out, I want to make Ramen noodles and include scrimp,prawns and fish, all dehydrate of course ;)

I used whole frozen prawns, that were cooked and then dehydrated. Required hot water and re-hydrating for at least an hour, else they were a bit on the tough side. Have not tried the supermarket dried ones yet.

I guess cutting them up into small pieces would work better if your going to be putting them into a meal, quicker to rehydrate and bit sized :)

I've tried supermarket dried ones and it was the same story, they took forever to rehydrate and were still chewy. Plus they didn't taste as good.

My approach, the few times I've done it, is to cut raw prawns into small pieces and add them at the end of cooking. Then dehydrate. I've made a recipe that's pretty simple: olive oil, garlic, shallots, mushrooms, diced prawns, and various secret seasonings, cooked and dehydrated. And then wild rice cooked and dehydrated seperately. Everything rehydrates quite quickly and nicely, except for the prawns. Even diced they are still a little bit chewy. But at least it doesn't take an hour.

Yes that is what I will be doing in future.
