What's the general rule with changing etc in huts with a few different groups in it, Ladies, Men etc. (We will say no kids)

Just wondering what's the norm somewhere like the OLT, Great Walks in NZ etc ??

Most of the time I've had a quite corner to get changed in or it's only been our group in the hut.

I sure don't feel comfortable getting my bits out infront of a group of people that I don't know and they don't know me.

It's always nice to get those undies and dirty top off when arriving in a nice dry hut after a hard day and replace with something clean / or just remove them and air the bits out (under some pants of course)

Just wrap a towel around your middle as if you were at the beach. Or do it in the dunny.

Who takes a towel? A 30cm square of synthetic chamois seems to suffice.

As to getting undressed in a hut or in a public space... Just face away from the crowd and do what you need to. It only takes a few seconds. If someone wants to peek so be it.

So tie a jacket around your middle and turn your back. It's not like everyone won't have already seen it all before.

I agree, once you've announced your intention to get changed over in the corner of the hut it's then put on the other occupants to perve or not to perve.

make an announcement, something like "Hey guys, im about to be nude. Feel free to look, but please dont stare too long or laugh too loud."
Then give it another 15-30 seconds, face away from them and get on with it. Once you have told them you are going to be nude, it is their responsibility to look away should they choose to. If they want to look at me, i dont mind.

An interesting question to consider since I'm doing the OLT in a few weeks. Use your discretion to get a sense of the other hut occupants. For complete privacy, head to the toilet. If you find that too revolting find a less populated corner in the hut and turn your back to the crowd. I notice that most (all?) the responses are from males. If you want a sophisticated technique ask any lady how she got changed in the girls' changeroom at school. Most of us perfected the art of 'no reveal' fairly quickly! Or you could skip modesty and make it a show worth watching?

I have found that stripping down to underwear is normal for most hut denizens and no one takes any notice. To change undies get into your sleeping bag or wait until all the lights are out.

Getting changed in huts? Why don't you just sleep in what you wear like everyone else does. It makes setting off in the morning easier. No more "Anyone seen my undies?" Don't worry, the inner sheet will keep the mud off your sleeping bag. OK your clothes are wet so you have to change but getting into dry stuff or into night thermals on cold season trips hardly requires full frontal exposure. If it does it's up to others as to whether or not they divert their eyes - or one eye maybe? I'm going to Tassie for 3 weeks of bushwalking next week and they'll only be one hut night. Please let me know if I'm missing anything!

A little discretion and patience, along with judicious use of the sleeping bag, if need be. It's never ideal, but it's hardly bothersome.

Yep, some because the tent they bought has a dodgy seam and leaks like the proverbial, or possibly because they prefer solid(ish) walls/roof. But I get your drift - prefer the tent meself, and changing there is not such a problem so long as the other party waits outside (and i wait outside for her to change) with a smallish 2 person tent!

Jeez. No one cares. Most of them have had kids and have seen it all, and the Euros dont care what you see anyway just dont steal me soap. Cyclists dont give a ....

If you are going to announce you're about to be nude, maybe sell tickets to make the effort worth your while.
Seriously though, stand in a corner & do it quick, it's no big deal and the most anyone would see is a backside. I do like my tent.

Just got back from walking the Overland Track and we had the full spectrum of dressing experiences, from someone announcing they were just about to get naked to another sneaking off to the toilets with a change of clothes and pot of warm water (for a sponge bath). I tried the sleeping bag wriggle one morning and decided that was hard work. The huts were full because of the rain and snow, but generally it was no big deal and most people were so subtle I didn't even notice them getting changed. I was much more concerned about the pong of wet socks and clothes desperately trying to dry each night!
