Hi All,
Any tips on looking after / fixing your gortex shell?
My gear is about 12 years old now and does not shed water to well and after a while in the rain Im getting water through in both the Jacket and Pants.

Hi Joe,
We follow what we were told by GORETEX a few years ago.
If the coat is dirty we wash it on a gentle cycle in the washing machine (with a wool type detergent) on a cold cycle
We then pit it in the clothes dryer on warm until dry.
Brings it back to new and retains the waterproofness.

Mate, it will come up like new after 12 years!
p.s. we have never waterproofed them but might one day!

If it has been properly cared for, and loses it's waterproofness, send it back (via the shop that sold it to you, or via another shop that sells that brand). Gore are good on their lifetime warrantee (I've done it once for a ~15 year old jacket). However, if it has not been correctly cared for, they will (understandably) not help you out with a replacement.
Be prepared for the Gore office to phone you after they've done their lab tests on your garment, and to be quizzed on how you've been using it, and how you've been caring for it.

Have just gone to wash the jacket and found that some of the taping on the inside has come loose. Do you think that seam seal would be the best thing to use to repair this? I dont think I would have a chance on the return option!!!

To re-waterproof seams get a tube of seam grip... it comes with a brush attachment designed for reapplying on tent and clothing seams and it works like a treat.
I think it's about $15 dollars and is available at most outdoor shops i'd imagine. It's a good idea to chuck it in your on track repair kit too.
