3 season lighter weight tents from Hilleberg !

I see there also introducing a mesh inner for the Nammatj tents.

Interesting to compare a couple of specs for the new Anjan 2 to the Scarp 2:

Anjan 2
Packed Weight: 1.7kg
Height: 100cm
Inner Tent Area: 2.8m squared

Scarp 2
Packed Weight: 1.7kg
Height: 111cm
Inner Tent Area: 2.9m squared

I prefer the side entry of the Scarp design and it also has the advantage of the two vestibules. The big difference here may well be the price... I don't believe Hilleberg have released that info.

I wander how the tents would compare in regards to snow loading and high winds. Franco ?

The Anjan looks like a much more stable design for wind. 2 poles vs 1 and guy ropes as standard. Looks like it has a higher floor also, which will keep the wind out of the bottom a bit. And narrower profile, can be pitched into the wind (theoretically) for a bit more stability.

A few days ago one of the regular forum members sent me the link to that PDF
My first comment to him apart from stating that I like the design and think that for Aussie conditions they will probably do in most 4 season situations, I told him that I was waiting for the inevitable comparison with the Scarp 2.

The weight and size, apart from headroom, is very similar but there are certainly more differences than similarities.
With the extra x poles (more weight) the Scarp should take a lot more snow before collapsing but till the two are set up side by side it is just a guess.
Then of course some like a front entry point, others the side ones with individual doors and vestibules.
Colour can be important as it is how one perceives a brand.
And there is the cost too, unknown at this stage. I would expect it to be a 2-3 hundred dollars more than the TT, (depending a lot on where they will be made , Estonia or Vietnam) but it is just a guess..
Anyway they will be out next April, so plenty of time to think about them

- black label
- red label
- yellow lable
- blue lable


The new anjan GT looks real nice. not sure how its spelt? "onion" or AN-JAN" ?

Big fan of Hilleberg, good to see they are thinking about lighter gear. The anjan looks like it would handle wind ok. Just looking at obvious changes though I think i'd much rather the Nallo in winter personally. They both really would best be described as 3 season tents? This surrounding summer, Nallo for winter. The Nallo mesh inners are nice but doesnt loose much weight for them.

Got a really great deal from Petra (Hilleberg) on an Anjan 2, it arrived the other day
This replaces my Soulo which was half a kilo heavier & quite a bit bulkier - still a really fantastic tent tho for 5 seasons.
I tend to ski vs walk when there is plenty of snow in Tassie in winter (when was that again?) so it will be a fine 3+ season shelter.
Taking it on a traverse of the Prince of Wales range next January so I will see how it performs on that tough trip

LOL, yes...we are also doing the section b/w Olegas Bluff - Humboldt (ie. a full traverse)...I may just have it draped over me in the scrub on that section
A max. of 6 for this trip, looking like 5 at this stage...space on the Edons wasn't really an issue...

So they look like a similar inner, same size... As a Nallo owner..this is sparking an idea that hasn't quite hit home yet

Anjan is a small town (and a lake) in Sweden and I just guess that's where it got its name from (?) and it would then be pronounced more like "An-Jan" rather than "onion".

The Anjan GT looks like a lot of tent for not a lot of weight. Would be a very good option for a lot of people who want the luxury of space and a great vestibule but still keep it relatively light.

G'day stu, have you used this tent yet? In the quest for a new tent I'm seriously considering the Anjan 2 but I'm hesitant to part with what is a significant amount of money after reading this guys review, leaky zips & outer tent too high off the ground allowing a lot of rain onto the inner and into the vestibule (kinda defeats the purpose of as vestibule), flimsy pegs & a leaky floor... doesn't sound like the legendary Hilleberg design and quality at all.

Maybe he's just beating it up but those do seem like genuine concerns for a $600 tent.

I read that review with interest as well and I think there's enough in it to be concerned.
I think I'll consider myself satisfied with my Nallo 2 and Soulo.

Yeah it was enough to make me buy something else, I would have loved the extra space and integral pitch but now I'm glad I waited until a few reviews surfaced...

I'm sure that hilleberg will address the issues at some stage but it's a bit disappointing nevertheless. I wonder why the quality control and design seem to be so out of character for what is regarded to be one of, if not the best tent makers. To hazard a guess I'd say its one or a combination of: They hadn't done enough testing; In the ridiculous quest for light weight over function (driven by a need to get into the American market?) maybe they left things like storm flaps off the zips & included flimsy pegs etc to shave off 40 grams here and 20 grams there; They left some features off to clearly differentiate it from the Nallo models, or; they are generally slipping (like we've seen with many other manufacturers)?

If they do address the concerns I'd still seriously consider buying one. It shoudn't be hard for them either as they state this on their website -> "It is also why we own and operate our own manufacturing facility in Estonia, something that gives us full quality oversight, and also lets us instantly adopt any design improvement we create". Adopt away Hilleberg!
