It is curious the trouble some have on hardened tracks - I found them to be pretty good on all surfaces.

I guess for me to get ten years out of the Sl's I have not walked every weekend out bush with them (would love to wear them out quicker with more walking though).
I get very sore achilles tendons when walking on bored walks such as OLT when carrying heave pack (25 or more ish kgs) but if walking on uneven ground with the same pack I don't get sore (go figure).
I do have orthotics.
I have looked after the boots quite well and they regularly are worn walking the dogs because they are so comfortable to wear.
I do hope my next pair are as good as the last.

I would like to get a pair as my raichle's are on their last legs. My main deterrent is I had some scarpa treks and they were terrible. I hope the SL is a better boot.

check out the Zamberlans. Very similar to Raichles, but much much stronger. And way more forgiving than Scarpa

They've got my size! Now all I have to do is convince the Minister for Finance that I should get another pair so soon

After seeing all the comments about Scarpa SL I wonder if someone can clear up an issue I found while trying a pair on, currently clearance lines through several US websites so a cheap pair of sturdy walking boots.

As walking around the shop I found the sole under the ball of the foot rolls nicely to the toe but as you push off the toe comes to an abrupt square instead of rocking smoothly off has anyone noticed this as it seems a little annoying

I am in search of a pair of very sturdy/stiff soled comfy boots, have worn a heap of boots out recently name Hi Tec and Scarpa Kailash... was looking at Asolo TPS 520 or Zamaberlan Vios, latter too narrow, Scarpa SL wide came on the radar today but with the above mentioned walking motion!

I noticed this walking in the store (felt very strange) but havent noticed it anywhere else.

They have a stronger shank than the Asolos and similar. Decent set of legs you will love it, much faster, powerful. If youve got calves you will eventually wear the toe round, and as the boots wear in the effect reduces anyway.

Suspect it's because they're new, and really rigid.
It's cool to be standing on a rocky ledge with barely any boot under the toe supporting your weight... Can't do that too comfortably with boots that have too much flex.
