Pelverata or Montezuma?

Sun 14 Oct, 2012 4:47 pm

It's commonly written that Montezuma Falls are the tallest falls in Tasmania with a drop of approximately 104 metres. It is also commonly written that Pelverata falls have a drop of 114 metres yet (apart from a mention in the Mercury today) it seems that Pelverata is not acknowledged as the tallest waterfall in the state.

I'm confused. Opinions?

I thought Angel Falls off the side of Sarah Jane Plateau was the highest?

i was under the impression that it was st Columba falls...
Waterfalls have a few categories though as well, i.e single fall or series of drops

Ralph's falls is the tallest single drop, allegedly!

St Columba falls are 90m tall. Can't remember if they and single or multiple drop though?

According to most books ive read , montezuma has always been acknowledged as the highest overall , which
to me means its measured from where it starts to fall , which i presume is above the top of the drop
as seen from the base . All i know is it is by far the most thunderous when in full force.
When the train service passed through there last century ,when in full force , a highlight of the trip
was to be sprayed with water while sitting in the carriage.

Angel Falls are ephermal; they only really run after rainfall, I think they're not considered for that reason.

*ephemeral :-)

Montezuma is pretty speccy and i think the 2nd highest. St Columba is the highest I believe but the least impressive of the lot, I have been to Pelverata after a 180mm rainfall event and it was amazing, the whole valley was rumbling.

Ralph's is one of my favourites though. Such a cool fall.

Surely walkintas ca help here???

What about Winterbrook Falls? Some authors wrote something about 200 m... Anyone knows the exact height?
