TIP: The online
Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Found some nice looking gifts from Snowpeak for the hiker friend who has everything
Pretty pretty pretty - green purple or blue. Double or single walled
http://www.snowpeak.com/tableware/cups- ... 053-1.html(I actually do really like these)
For chasing that last recalcitrant piece of rice around your pot
http://www.snowpeak.com/tableware/cutle ... t-103.htmlI've also seen some titanium ones too, but the recyled baseball bat bit on the above one has to get a smile
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/321008996689 ... 1438.l2649For that refreshing cold beer when you reach camp
http://www.snowpeak.com/kanpai-350-ds-tw-070.htmlOr perhaps something a little stronger?
http://www.snowpeak.com/tableware/flask ... flask.htmlThe shape is just begging to be caressed (and yes, i am being naughty here)
For some romantic tent ambience - i love the bit where it says it will sense sound or wind and flicker like a candle!
http://www.snowpeak.com/hozuki-lantern-es-010.htmlAnd I just had to add this
Why woud anyone want one of these??

How about a "leave pass" so the recipient can do that long desired walk that perhaps you don't want to. A low cost, non consumer gift that will be long remembered.

The camper in my life spied the Exped Down Mat 7 when we were in Mountain Designs on the weekend. It looks like the old Thermarest is about to be retired when Santa arrives.

I know quite a few people that carry a straw to make it easier to suck water out of drip puddles etc. But i have to say this does take it to the extream!

As hubby pointed out in his practical Aries way (and burst my Scorpio bubble). They will soon scratch and look suitably 'well used'
/ sadfce
Shhh - I stil may buy them, and whip them out on Chrissie morning in our little cabin on Coles Bay in Tassie. Plan on their virgin outing in the Hartz Peak area on Boxing Day.
Maybe if we get lost Wayno, we can use them to semaphore messages to rescuers.
As an aside when i was booking a cabin the real estate guy was happily telling me it has a lovely stone fireplce.
In my head I was, 'WT *$&#? Fires in Dec?'
Then it ka-chinged.
I am in TASMANIA

No, far from it - I'm a veterinarian!
I was just browsing the snowpeak site and found all these weird things
I have an odd sense of humour, small things amuse me

I can vouch for the single wall in raw Ti. Good size, and very nice to use. It won't crack like the GSR plastic cup it replaces. Really good gift idea. Snowpeak make such nice stuff. The chopsticks

and those flasks

Actually, any gift ideas specifically for the fledgling lady bushwalker? She likes tough walks, cheese, wine and clothes but hates practical gear. Maybe those chopsticks... hmmmm.

All I want for Chrissie is good walking weather wherever I happen to be. And a Lotto ticket that scores me enough to retire on . . .

A bigger pack for you to carry some of her stuff?

Have you seen the latest in tents?
Someone has made a copy full scale sized split screen combie tent (google it on ebay)
It weighs in a t 12 kgs or so, but wouldn't it look good in your favourite camping spot way out of reach from any car...

I gave in and bought a pair of the Ti cups - always a sucker for a pretty colour. I hope they don't scratch too badly.

Given her interests I'd have to say that one, two or more (white, red ... port?) of these are a must!
http://www.amazon.com/Platypus-Platy-Pr ... B001G7QUWI. Allows you to take whatever wine you like to imbibe in instead of being restricted to the undrinkable mini chateau cardboard or mini bottles (no glass!). Highly recommended for those who enjoy a nice wine or port at the end of a big day of walking!

Do no, I repeat, do not succumb to buying the 300ml mini squishy packs of red or white wine from the bottle shop. They are truly horrible and not even worth cooking with (though I did keep the packaging for use as in the above post - looks like a good idea)

are you talking about the McWilliams 250ml ones?
I actually think they're passable.

Yep agree there, horrid stuff.

I ordered some wet weather gear from Campsaver at the beginning of November as a Christmas present for my son. However there is a supply problem apparently and it looks like the stuff won't make it in time.

I will have to find him something else.
