Oh yeah and this was the reply from S2S about their liners

"In regards to the reactor liners the 14 degree increase is a best case scenario. If you had a insufficient sleeping bag the extra heat generated would leak out.
The AP2 has a comfort level of -9 if you were in a situation where the temperature was closer to the lower limit of -15 you would be much warmer with a Reactor extreme liner than without.
If you had a sleeping bag with a rating of 5 in this situation even with a extreme liner you would not be warm enough."

Ah, wilderness wanderer, that's why you'd wear more clothes to bed!

And, if it makes everyone feel better I have used boots to rest my head on, but my neck gets sore. At least the boots would have been about muddy and unhygienic!

This post has def sparked a lot of debate!

I have the StS Extreme Reactor liner. I bought it to use as booster for my current sleeping bags Mont Zodiac 500 & WM Sycamore and to use as a summer bag on its own. Though I do agree I dont think it would add 15C, probably more like 5 - 7C increased warmth. The stretchy material certainly does make it very comfy to use

As far as pillow I use the Thermarest Stuff Sack Pillow size large, I use it as an extra rain protection slipped over my sleeping bag when in my pack and at night turn it inside out and stuff my OR Nano Puff Jacket inside it as a pillow. It works great, minimal weight/volume and quite comfy. A good nights sleep is always a top priority.

Maybe that's why they are mainly solo hikers??

I can't believe you find it so outrageous that people rough it in the bush!

Would you apply these same principles to a 1 night walk? What about 2 nights?
What about snow camping when it's -4 when you finally get into your tent - do you whip on a fresh set of thermals?

While we're at it: Should hikers change their underwear daily? Should we bathe every other day? Should we shave? ( women too - no need to go 'German' just because you're in the bush!)

A buildup of bodily oils can protect you from too much moisture loss through sweating when you're walking in extreme heat, so washing in that case can actually be counter-productive.

Only if the ones I've been wearing during the walk are wet.

I don't think the wombats care what I smell like. They don't mind the hairy legs, either.
