Rinadeena Falls to Daisy Lakes

Postby RiverFly » Wed 04 Mar, 2009 3:37 pm

I am walking to Lake Fanny from Rinadeena Falls - has anyone walked up the creek from the falls, around Mersey Crag and landed at the top of the Daisy Lakes before? I have done the usual Long Tarns route etc , just curious if you can go in the backdoor so to speak.

I was in this area in early Feb and covered most of the ground you are talking about. The only section i didn't do was from the falls up to Mersey Crag. There is a pad going up past the falls but I'm not sure how far up it goes. My guess is it would go all the way but there's only one way to find out. Having said that, I reckon the going would get very nasty up higher without a pad.
We came down the major creek further to the west to pick up the track just after the last bridge a couple of 100m from the car park. The going was a bit thick in places but still quite negotiable.

From Mersey Crag to Daisy lakes is easy but I would recommend scrub trousers. There's nothing too serious if you stay fairly high, just a lot of scratchy knee high sprengeloides and the trousers make the going a lot more comfortable.

I have been down from the saddle just west of Mersey Crag a couple of times and it is very pleasant walking especially once down into the lovely myrtle forest. The route follows fairly close to the creek most of the way on the lower part. A minor bit of scrub in the upper reaches, but no trouble

As a matter of fact, if it wasn't for the weather and another matter I would have been there this very week to do a circuit and returning via the above mentioned route.
