Werribee Gorge - help identifying a plant

Postby tongu » Tue 01 Jan, 2013 3:19 pm

Hi, I recently went on a walk along the circular track in Werribee Gorge and couldn't help but notice the bright red fruit of this plant. At first I thought they were red currants but the leaves appear different to the ones I've seen online. Does anyone know what plant this is?

Thanks

Hi Tongu and welcome to the forum.
The plant is saltbush, but I'm not sure of the botanical name. I think one of the display boards in the park has more information about this particular saltbush on it. If not the friends of Werribee Gorge may be able to enlighten you more, I think they actually collect the seed and hand seed areas with it.
