I bought an
Osprey Xenon 70lt which is designed for women. I went through the same process of moulding in the shop. At the time I thought that hands on hips was not going to simulate a fully laden pack pulling directly down at the back. Sure enough, the moulding bit into my derriere cheeks on my first serious use of it. Got it sorted with a bit of adjustment.
Don't get me wrong, I quite like the pack. I bought this one because a friend had a similar one & recommended it, was comfortable to wear, lightweight & a big improvement on my trusty old Droite!
Pros:Good curved shoulder strap design
Has a good simple torso adjustment & many other pack adjustments
Seems to distribute the weight better
Lighter in weight (but not the lightest pack)
Comfortable to wear & carry (when you sort out the moulding!)
Men's & Women's design
Height adjustable lid, detaches & turns into "bum bag" (only any use with light items eg: waterproofs)
Internal detachable hydration pak pocket that converts into small backpack (again only use with light items eg: small/half filled drink bottle & scroggin)
-together detachables look bl%@dy ridiculous but they do work if you are off on a side trip & want to leave your big pack behind
Brand has a good reputation
Elasticized outer pouches (easier access to drink bottles, etc)
Has several unobtrusive outside pockets & pouches
Big, easy to grab zipper loops (great in the wet/cold)
Can access pack from top, middle & bottom
Frame is designed with a head cut away (curve) to allow freedom of movement
Cons:Metal frame curves into pack area causing things to catch when pulling out (solution - stuff bags)
Too many straps hanging about & nowhere to fold away excess
Not really waterproof - rain cover extra
Cost(?) $430-ish
Colour (lovely burnt orange but not good for standout safety reasons - if I'm lost or hurt, I want to be found not camouflaged!)
Hope this helps anyone considering one.
