BWT 2nd Anniversary Walk - Pictures

Tue 24 Mar, 2009 10:23 pm

Okay here's a few pics - I didn't take many.

Miniskid, Geoskid, Penguin and Nick S on the way up on Saturday morning:

Beautiful morning Saturday:

On the banks of Lake Nameless on the way to Ironstone Hut:
Image

Kicking back at Ironstone Hut and checking out....
Image

the view:
Image

We then headed up Forty Lakes Peak:
Image

After a short steep climb we had excellent views to the north:
Image

And after a quick stroll to the top we had great views all around (but the photos won't stitch properly). Suffice to say you could see all the W.O.J. mountains, Mt Olympus, Mt Rufus, King William Range, Wylds Craig (I think) and the Mt Fields. Plus heaps of lakes etc. Not bad for a short easy walk.

We even had phone reception up there:
Image

On the way back we met a local or two:

Arrived back to find a very busy hut before getting stuck into dinner:

We then had a little camp fire and a chin wag 'till early Sunday before hitting the sack.

Nice work, STH . Did you take any on Sunday ? :D Looks like the Mt. Ironstone venture didn't come off ? Couldn't blame you, it's a pretty stiff climb up Higgs track isn't it.
Fantastic weather eh! Good for pics eh! C'mon there must be a few more or did your batteries go flat. Those of us who couldn't go are sitting here with withdrawl simptoms. Ease our pain.

Nup no Sunday pics - it was raining and the camera didn't come out of the dry bag. I left pretty early anyway.
Yeah Ironstone Mountain got the can - by the time Penguin Nick S and I arrived everyone had canned the idea so in the end we had a pretty cruisy walk up Forty Lakes Peak and a laze in the sun at Ironstone Hut. Might go in from the other track sometime soon.

Good work sth, you captured all the best bits i think.
Hey I tried doing the google maps thing to find out what mts we could see due south but it doesn't really show them that well. Wylds crag would've been one of them, and I'm thinking that was Mt Gould we could see between the WOJ..

Yeah i'd be keen to climb mt ironstone straight from the western creek track

Yep - well Google Earth says Goulds Sugarloaf so I suspect thats the same thing as Mt Gould. From playing with Google Earth I'm pretty sure we could see right from Mt Field East to Mt Field West and along to Mt. Misery. I'm also pretty sure it was the Great Lake out to the east afterall, there really aren't any other bodies ow water big enough for it to have been anything else.

Yeah i'd be keen to climb mt ironstone straight from the western creek track

This Saturday?

Sthughes

Good photos. They sum up the weekend well. Good fun in a laid back way. Great that the number did turn up. Big thanks to Nik for setting the forum up and to keeping enthusiasm going for the motley group that you can see in the photos

Well done on the Saturday effort STH. Speccy view from 40 lakes peak, might get out that way next summer with flyrod in the pack.
Acouple of other favourites are the first one with Miniskid leading the troops and looking pretty comfortable.
Thats also a nice one of Penguin's purple crocs. But did he have the Bata's ,the River's or those other cheap ones like yours.

Good on you again Sth for taking the photos, I did have a camera and will make a point of getting it out in future and also take a few minutes to learn how to post them! Even though I was there I was looking forward to your shots to re-live the w/end. It's odd perhaps, but whilst in the moment I dont think to record something of it to reflect on, however I can change!
Miniskid thoroughly enjoyed the w/end and is still talking about it, especially helping 'procure' the trout from Lady Lake! Thanks to all present for accepting him, I know that w/end will go straight into his lifelong memory bank - all good stuff.
The campfire was very welcoming with so many people present and the singing something to be remembered. :D
I could have done with 2 more nights like it to really unwind.
Happy 2nd Anniversary BWT - Congrats and Thanks Nick

I've been trying to find time to post some pics for days. Every time I try something seems to get in the way. Finally found time to post the best ones. The rest are here.

Sunset from the hut on Friday evening:
Image

Western Lake early Sat morning. The fish didn't appreciate the weather as much as I did, they were hiding (or were they just all in Lady Lake, which supposedly doesn't have any fish:
Image

Lake Nameless from atop 40 Lakes Peak:

Image

A spy, watching us from the bushes, cleverly disguised as a marsupial:
Image

Some friendly ladies and gentlemen enjoying a roaring(ish) fire:
Image

My, what big feet you have TWF!:
Image

Sunday - the walk out via Western Creek track, the waterfall flowing over the track:
Image

The small group that decided to take this longer route home. Pomysi, even carried that huge chair all the way out!:
Image

That'll do, the link at the top of this post has a bit more if you're interested.

Yup. :-) I remember asking him at the time if there was some better way of cleaning his frypan.

After seeing the way some of you guys walked out, I'm even more annoyed I couldn't hang around a bit longer on the Sunday! Did you have to do much of a walk along the road to get back to the cars?

Still no photos of the monster fish?

Nope, we had the choice of two utes in the carpark that we'd been offered a lift in! :)

In fact after watching pimmysi lug that big heavy chair around all day I was so tired I just sat in it at Westren Creek carpark, while he went and collected a car for us ;)
