Hi
Would any one please suggest some good 2 and 3 day walks, preferably within 2-3 hours of Hobart. I have seen a few suggestions in Chapman such as Hartz, Picton, but I am sure there are many more.
I have done frnechmans cap and some of the mount anne circuit. I am always short of time but can get to Tas every few months so I would love to hear some some options for my next trip in a couple of weeks. I am happy with off track routes.
Thanks

Got a map of Tas? Throw a dart at it and go......
What type of things are you looking for?

Cape Pillar is good and you can do a circuit which includes Mt Fortesque. Also around Wineglass Bay and down to Brians Beach.

Could get in to Lake Oberon and back for some classic SW.
How about camping at Lake Sydney under Mt Bobs?
Catch the Lake St Clair boat to Narcissus then do Acropolis & Geryon pitching in the Labyrinth.

Maria Island was always a great walk.

Depends on when you want to go too. But apart from everything said here you also have Mount Field, Bruny Island, South Cape (you can walk the first portion of the South Coast walk), all the SW peaks that can be done as 2-3 day circuits (Mt Anne being one of them for example of course). Maria Island is a good idea, not a lot of people do it, and it's pretty unspoiled. It depends what you're looking for really, you should specify otherwise you're gonna get a useless long list or people able to help but not wanting to answer you without more details.

Thanks for some replies and I'll look into these. I come over every 2 months or so for work and can usually get something like thursday after work to sunday to explore, so I like options for any time of the year. I really like the isolation, forest, rivers and quite like a strenuous climb. I always tent. I do quite like the idea of out and back, as usually I am rushing to catch a plane so I quite like being able to work out exactly how long I got to return, rather than trying to second guess the cicruit, and then inenvitably either rushing it and finishing early or worse, turning back for fear of missing the plane. I liked frenchmans cap, that was great. I would of loved to have time to do the circuit more and swam the river. Thats my idea of what I like. wet, dirty and a challenge. Mt anne circuit I found a bit barren. The climbing bits were ok. On this time though again, I was worried about missing my plane so turned back near the notch, and sort of done the circuit doing half from each end to make sure I knew exactly how long it would take to make it. As it turns out it meant doing the cicruit almost twice (except missing the best bits in the middle), so I really did mis judge that walk. So doing it properly is still an option.
I was wondering on whether you can fill 3 days of rambling around mount wellington. Or whether I would just come across too many roads and fire trails for my liking. I read a report about lake rhona on here. That sounds good.
