Is the park big enough to warrent all day, and an over night walks. Can you camp anywhere ? I have 2 or 3 days, and deciding between spending all the time in welington NP, or whether to do something like the lake rhona, or picton range walk ? As some back ground, I do like to walk most of the day, 8 hours or so and not one to sit down and relax and enjoy the view. I was thinking about doing most of the tracks on the eastern side, and then taking the east-west track(indicated as a bike track on the tasmap recreational map) as far as I can. Any advice?

I personally wouldnt ever do an overnighter up there. The east west track is a fire trail, not in the same league as Rhona or Picton. You can do Charles return from Myrtle Valley in a day, including side trips up Trestle, Marrian and Collins bonnet.

Thanks frenchy_84. I was thinking of doing the east-west doing all the side trips i can find such as collins bonnet. Would I still soon get bored. I like to walk alot, for example one day, I was at mount anne circuit high camp, and decided instead I would walk some of the WA. So i walked down from there, drove, and the walked the davey track to the bottom of alpha morraine at teh camp site there, didn't like how the weather was closing in, so walked back just so that I could do lake judd the next day. I think that was a good 10-12 hour day. Would I be stretching it for things to keep me busy in wellington. I haven't yet developed the skill of slowing down, enjoying the serentity and nature. I usually have 2 or 3 days after each work trip in hobart, and haven't yet explored closer to the city. I was just hoping for a time when I don't have to hire a car, purely to leave it n the car park for 3 days ! But if you reckon picton or rhona is better, thats great. I do like the sounds of some rivers and water fall though, or have I got a misconception of mount wellington.

Wello has plenty to offer but there are much better challenges. Perhaps Mt Field would suit better, the scenery is better, lots of tracks etc
Or if you have 3 days do the Anne Circuit, Oberon return, Rhona with a day exploring the Denisons or get up to Lake St Clair and do a walk into The Labyrinth, The Walls, Cradle area??
The Picton Circuit requires some SW Tas off track experience so I'd be cautious with that one unless you are sure, daywalks on either end are no drama, it's the middle bit that catches some out.

It's good for a bit of a laugh in the snow, but otherwise isn't very interesting.

East-West Trail is the most boring walk I have ever done in my life. However, there are some fantastic day walks in the park that are easily accessed from Hobart. I am a regular around Lenah Valley/Old Hobartian Tracks and enjoy what it offers for 5 minutes drive from home.
It would suit an overnighter if your aims were more camping than walking.

Collins Bonnet/Trestle Mtn are a great double from Myrtle Forest. I saw a post here somewhere from a guy that pitched on the summit of CB. There is camping options around the place lower down also.
I once did a circuit starting at The Springs up the Icehouse Track to the summit, off track across the plateau meeting the Thark Ridge Track, down to Wellington Falls via the Mt Montagu Track and back to The Springs via Potato Fields etc. brilliant walk!
There are heaps of great options if you don't have transport further afield.
