TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

My Oookworks oooknest inner for my Duomid has arrived, A quick look at it, I'm impressed with what I see, The floor is interesting, made of Chikara, never heard of the fabric, but it's very light and has a bit of a crinkly sound to it.

Feels light, have not put it on the scales thus far. Got other things on my mind at the moment. but I thought I might post, that part of my new shelter has arrived.

Good stuff Phil, I'll be interested to hear some more in depth opinion after you've had it for a while - and some photos :D I have a duomid on the way too and I'm seriously considering getting an oookworks inner for it, it looks like a very versatile, simple and light-weight combination and one thats getting good reviews at the moment. I have sent a couple of emails to sean and found out that the prices have just gone up to 175gpb (around 260aud I think) so I'd better get in before they go up any more!

I never received a response from Sean. Sent the first email almost 2 months ago and have sent a few since, was going to order from him, Someone offered to sell me there Oooknest. Picked it up for $220.00 delivered to my door. I might have already mentioned this, not sure. It's had very little use. Taken 3 and a half weeks to get here after it was sent. Customs here held onto it for over a week. Than it was stuck somewhere while we where getting bombarded my mother nature, was worried it might have got stuck in a warehouse somewhere with water over it, but it arrived all dry.

I just put it on the scales, including stuff sack, it's 382 grams. It's going to be great for cold weather.

Sounds good Phil, need photos! :)

Yes, Sean is still snowed under with orders. He reckons 10-12 weeks delay on his website, so I guess he is sewing instead of surfing. I had confirmation before Christmas, so it sounds like mine will show up around mid March.

Looks like prices have gone up about 25%

I had a chance to setup my Oooknest today, posted some images and my thoughts at this early stage on a new topic.

Still waiting on my Cuben Duomid to arrive. I don't expect to see it here for another 5 weeks.

It's now just over 6 weeks since I ordered my Cuben Duomid. I have a feeling any day now it will turn up in the post. :D

I can't wait for it. I should have some images up this weekend of my new shelter. I'm getting excited now.

I might have to leave the comfort of my hammock at home on my next hike and take the Duomid. Just so I get to sleep in it.

Do you plan on using a single trekking pole in the middle or will you be using two poles in an inverted V shape? I've found the latter to be much better, with pole extenders, even when using an inner. A single pole in the middle was useful for using the DuoMid with two people, the innernet on one side and a cuben groundsheet on the other...

I never thought off using two poles inverted in a v shape. I'll use a single pole for the moment. if I ever get a partner joining me, your idea with the v shape pole setup, might be of some benefit.

How do I know my DuoMid is on it's way you ask?

Well I received this email yesterday from my mail forwarder in the states with the attached images. I got it sent the fastest transport I could find from them to me. 3 days. ETA is this Friday.

I have no idea what that is in the 2nd image.

Looks good. I recently ordered a compact trailstar from MLD, so good to hear your's only took 6 weeks.

Did you use a freight forwarder simply for quicker shipping times?

Not exactly. Main reason I decided to use a freight forwarder. Number one. MLD don't inform you when the item sent. There was no insurance included in freight he wanted to use and quoted a very high price of over 200.00 for a quicker freight option with insurance. The freight forwarder I used offer huge discounts for Insured fast delivery and much better tracking. You don't get a tracking number with MLD.

High value and replacement time of over 8 weeks if anything goes wrong, I didn't want to take my chances with sub-par freight with no tracking.

Woohoo. How exciting. Its always great to get new hiking gear (especially when it lightens the load). I actually took ownership of a cuben shelter last week. I tossed up for ages over which one but in the end I went for a bearpawwd ute. I'll post some pics when its set up properly (I've still got to cut and attach the line for the corner linelocs so I don't have to pitch it flush to the ground). Looks good though and so easy to set up :-)

I am not sure where I can go to try apart from the backyard, all the national parks up here are closed after the record floods we had a couple weeks ago. They say its not safe along our coast line up here. There are 70 boats not counted for, a few have washed up along our coast line. One with drastic find inside it, I been told.

You guys are not hearing what is happening up here. Its all kept hush for some reason. I think the government is keeping a tight lip about this one and don't want to much info going out. A mate of mine was involved in the first team to set foot in the worst flooded areas, and what he told me I cant repeat, its all hush hush. Why, we don't know. So its great to have some great news for a change on my part and something to put a smile back on my face.

It's some repair material wrapped around the tube of silicone sealer.

Cut and paste from the page on the MLD website for the Duomid:

Included

• Guyline
• Pole Jack
• Sil Stuff Sack
• Extra GuyLine to join two trek poles if you dont want to carry a PoleJack.
• SilNet Seam Sealer

I believe the SillNet is supplied with the sill-Nylon Duomid, not included with Cuben Duomid, as its taped to join the seals, not requiring seam sealing.

I have read online reports SillNet was accidentally added with the Cuben Version, one guy seam sill his cuben version when he noticed the SillNett included in his kit, to be told it was not required.

A year or two ago the cuben version did require seam sealing as they where stitched together, stitching cuben together is now regarded as a big no no, particularly in high stress areas.

That makes sense.

SO what is it then? Unneeded SilNet? Lots of extra cord? Poo?

According to my freight provider, I will have the Duomid in my hands this friday.
We will all find out this friday what it is. I would not be surprised if it is SillNet after reading a few reviews where MLD had included the SillNet in the cuben version by mistake, causing some confusion by new owners. Ron from MLD has mentioned on his facebook page that the SillNet should not be included with the cuben version and if it is to ignore it.

Yes, I understand re the cuben shelter. The reason I say it is silnet wrapped in repair material is that I got the exact same item with my TrailStar.

I guess we will find out soon enough :)

Ooh, I would like to hear (and see!!) more about your new tent! I've been looking into that one in the very unlikely event that we get some unexpected money coming our way :D Not very likely that I will actually need a solo tent either but anyway...
It is rated as a 4 season tent which surprised me a bit. Not sure how accurate that is. Would it really stand up to some typical Tassie winter weather? Did you get it with or without the floor?

Here is a couple of pictures of my DuoMid using the inverted V setup. I had a pretty wild storm that night, some serious wind and rain. I could have camped in a more sheltered spot but I like the view.

Ignore the pole extenders, they are cheapie home made stuff from Bunnings before I bought some carbon fibre ones...
