2 day walk suggestions

Postby nate » Tue 12 Feb, 2013 10:37 am

I have 2 days for a walk this weekend, hopefully within a few hours of Hobart.
I was thinking of lake Rhona. Any other tougher options ?

How tough do you want?

Anne circuit in 2 days is a good one...a bit tougher than Rhona which is essentially a 2 day valley walk (apart from the final ascent to the lake).
More bang for your 2 day buck on the Anne circuit IMHO & pretty spectacular walking.
If you want a tough off-track 2 day walk then that opens up another kettle of fish altogether!

I have tried but not complted mount anne circuit before ( but didn't complete due to sketchy weather near to the notch), but then went to the other side and walked in reverse from lake judd. That was over 2 days. So whilst completing mount anne circuit is an option, I was seeing if there is anything else. What off tracks 2 day walks have you got in mind.
After a few ridge walks, I would actually mind a valley walk with the option of climbing something hard close by if I get time. PM me if you aren't allowed to publicly list off track walks. I am very open to ideas.
I just need to decide tonight to get the maps tommrow.

Thanks,
nate

Some interesting semi-on and off-track walks that would take 2 days, are sorta close to Hobart, and include valleys:

-Mt Gell
-The Thumbs via Adamsfield
-Mt Bobs

I'd probably suggest you're leaving research a little late though. It may well be safer to go with something like Rhona and maybe research these for later (unless you're particularly confident).

Thanks Ollster. I have read in Chapman, the Blakes shelter to Mount Picton route. How does this compare to say Lake Rhona (which I am assuming rightly or wrongly is fairly straight forward).

Any other peaks that are worthy of 2 days ? It seems that apart from Mount Anne, all other big peaks are more than 2 days ???? Or the ones I have across on basic research.
I have a few days to organise, but was hoping to get maps today.
