Warner's Track

Fri 10 Apr, 2009 4:56 pm

Has anyone walked this track near Meander? It had an upgrade recently, new bridge, I think. Thinking of doing this in the future. Had an idea to walk onto the Central Plateau & camp near Pine Lake. This would be very exposed & I was wondering if anyone new of a camp spot there or just before near the tree line? Day two would be an easy(?) walk over & down to Liffey Falls.

Any info would be gratefully appreciated.

I haven't walked the full length of Warners track ,but I have done the top part from near Pine lake to over the saddle near Adams peak and down the creek a bit past some old fence posts and wire.
The creek is very pretty and has a miniture waterfall and many plant species.
The whole distance from Jackeys marsh would probably only take a morning or a short day. Anyway goodluck, and have a nice walk.
You will find a few stakes across the open moor between Adams peak and the lake highway.

I've never tried Pine lake, but the big lake down the road has plenty. :D

Picking up the track from the Jackey's Marsh end was a bit difficult as it wasn't signposted. I needed a map and GPS to find the correct location but googlemaps shows it. The bottom end of the track has been used for logging and can be confusing but once past this it is a very well benched track that zig-gags on the western side of the creek. It is a nice walk. The bridges are being rebuilt by the Mountain Huts Preservation Society with support from Parks. There would be some camping near the top bridge. A nice morning walk.

Cheers,

E.G.

Thanks for the details E.G., a campsite near the bridge sounds good. I read an article recently about the completion of the bridge restorations which sparked my interest as it is in my "backyard".
I've driven to what I think is the start of the track. It is at the entrance to a "commune"? I think I was trespassing when I inadvertently stopped in there to ask for directions. They obviously guard their privacy.

Cheers lyndoor :D
