Last minute thoughts for Easter - Horseshoe Inlet??

Mon 25 Mar, 2013 8:23 pm

Leaving it late, but what are the thoughts on a night or two, with cameras, around Horseshoe Inlet? Assuming I can get flights of course.
Yes I will take a tent and other assorted essentials, but is it worth a full day at Horseshoe? Friends had to cancel plans for coming to Tas for Easter so I am at a loose end and want to get away for a few days. If possible, out Saturday back Monday, or out Sunday back Tuesday.

The idle thoughts are along the lines of catching a sunset and sunrise at the inlet, perhaps spend some time around Melaleuca Lagoon as well, possibly wander up a hill and probably sleep the midday away.

I recall reading somewhere that it is possible to pick up a gas canister with enough in it from those left at the shed by the airstrip - is this still likely? I have no need for a large canister for 2 nights and would prefer not to add to the collection of partly used supplies if it can be avoided.

Thanks

When I passed on through there was quite the collection.

I guess you could fly in, run over and check. If there's nothing there, buy one from the pilots.

Easy!

That's right bumpingbill. Normally plenty there but worst case you can purchase. Normally quite a variety there. Nice spot to go but big trip for 2 nights, unless you can hitch a ride up to port davey on a boat??Would give you more time.

Thanks for the confirmation. Alas, I will have to work a bit over the break, so no trip this time. Maybe I'll get a day walk in somewhere.
Not so major a journey really. What I want is to get somewhere photogenic (or with possibilities) set up camp and just wander around the area for a day. 2 nights gives me 2 chances at sunrise/set and the full day has lots of options. It will go back on the to do list, later in the year.
