Agamemnon

A question for the Peakbaggers out there.....is Agamemnon the 1238m Abel worth any points? I can't find it on any of the lists and find it hard to believe this peak is worth nothing, considering the effort taken to access it.

From memory its worth 5 which considering you have to go over frenchmans which is a 7 its a pretty productive day

Clytemnestra is past Frenchmans. Agamemnon is the most eastern of the group and near Philps. It could be the first peak on the trip if you daywalk from Vera in a loop around to White Needle back to Vera.

ah *&%$#!, sorry my bad, got my peaks mixed up. Agamemnon isnt worth anything. it wasnt even named until a few years ago. There are a few abels out there not worth points (Hippogriff, Chimera, one of the Tors? (high point on the walk out to Remus))

another correction (finally got the books out rather than rely on my memory which is obviously bad) The other peak i was trying to remember isnt a Tor but a Knob. Both Recondite Knob and Brewery Knob aren't worth points (or effort, ;))

Mt Penny West also is an Abel not worth any points! I'm sure there are a few others. Still, might as well climb it while you're there, one more to tick off a different list! :P That's what it's all about, of course ;)

Agamemnon is a good off-track peak. If you like challenging walking, the loop from the main trail just prior to Vera Hut in a circuit via Agamemnon, Philps and White Needle is highly recommended. It's tough and very, very, exposed beyond Philps.

I wouldnt recommend this for anyone who isnt a competent climber.

Indeed, I likely shouldn't recommend such routes in public forums.

Agamemnon was named as such recently, but it did appear on V1 of the peakbagging spreadsheet as Philps Ridge (or so I was told). Still not worth any points though. Not that that matters - its a wonderful walk!

Being recently named seems like the most likely reason for no points. If it was previously Philps Ridge it was probably considered part of that summit in a peakbagging sense......sounds like a doosey of a peak though....can't wait :D

I climbed Agamemnon early this year and it is indeed a very pleasant off track walk. Gives you some grandstand views and well away from the crowds. My only regret is we didn't leave camp till after 11 am due to weather so now I have to go back to continue to Philps.

On another note, the only list of points I have is from old Tramps. Is there an up to date on line version somewhere?

The camping up there is even better than the walking.

Good to see some of the people who used to bagpeakbagging now want copies of the list.... you all come around eventually :p
