WOW! This is fantastic! Even works properly on iOS!

Now if only you could export the data for Garmin, or at least get an app that would download it for offline use...I can only hope!

Yes they've done very good job.
Has updated imagery in some places.

They welcome feedback.

It was a bit wobbly on my Tablet but PC works beautifully.

I think the maps are being made available via WMS so you may be able to use that to hook into apps.

I reckon export to GPX would be easy. When I return from a couple of months leave (starting today yee haa!) I might see if I can convince folks about getting Parks tracks made available as a "Recreation" layer that is also downloadable.

That would be great tastrax.
I notice their topographic basemap appears to be derived from vector data. It would be great if that could somehow be made available (and non-copyright) to be able to add it to OSM/convert for Garmin etc.

I doubt they will release the vector data as its a saleable product for them (discussed previously on this forum). I suspect that there will likely be some announcement when the public get the WMS service - I cant see anything on the web at the moment but that's probably because the release date for the new LIST is not until Monday (I think).

I will keep an eye out and post something if I find it ....during my holidays!

I've done some rudimentary research on WMS, and have played around with some iOS programming code. I'm 99% confident that I'll be able to get the new LISTmap imagery to work in Maps n Trax version 6.0 (not due out for a couple of months yet, at least) - so long as theLIST don't change anything between now and then. Being that it uses WMS and not the same tile reference system as OSM, it won't work in the current version of Maps n Trax.

Yes. In the current version of Maps n Trax, you can already save small areas of OSM-style maps for offline access and the new WMS maps implementation will work in exactly the same way - it just generates URLs for map tile images differently (WMS is the standard that the new LISTmap uses). You can save the area currently being viewed on screen, for a range of zoom levels you choose (default is current zoom level to two zoom levels higher). In addition to this, the next major release (version 6.0) will allow you to merge these saved map sheets into one larger map sheet (with either greater area, greater range of zoom levels, or both).

In fact, the Maps n Trax implementation of WMS (including saving for offline access) is now working as of about 5 minutes ago. The drawback is that it won't be released until version 6.0 and that will be for iOS 7.0 and up only (rant at Apple for making it quite difficult to support both iOS 6 and iOS 7 in the one app).

Note that users will still have to enter the specs (ie, URL) for each LISTmap map type into Maps n Trax for themselves. Maps n Trax will not include specs for any particular map and will continue to be a 'bring your own' maps system.

heheh... yeah, I'll document the procedure properly one day. But essentially, it's just a matter of entering 1 URL into the preferences in Maps n Trax which is just a one time job. I've updated my post to make that a little clearer.

Had a quick look and around the New Pelion Hut area. They had a box for what looks like is the hut and toilet but those features were not searchable. They have the Lees Paddock track marked in what looked is the right place which is better than the printed maps. Searched using Douglas Creek and it did that very nicely and confirms that the underlying data is in a vector format. Just makes me wonder why they do not release it in Garmin along with a few other GPS companies format as it would kill any other GPS maps out in the market.

But like all online maps a total trap in the field, just as the Police what they thought of intrepid walkers lost in the Reynold Falls area reliance on online maps. I for one would never even consider claiming online maps suitable for bushwalking. But for home research they are a promising tool and a massive step in the right direction.
