I thought about its use on water. But even in open water, there'll still be reefs dotted around. Progress, not regress... Map is there for a good reason. So many apps these days are just going for the novelty and being different. Guess it's a way to get a few clicks and for the programmers to learn.

Obviously not something you would want to be totally dependent on but just the simplicity of it could be attractive in some situations.
Being able to quickly answer the simple question "Am I roughly heading in the right direction and how far" with a big easy to read graphic without needing to stop and decipher a tiny topo map screen is an advantage.

I think that's the selling pitch. But for anything worth and needing navigation, why not just use the app that can do it properly rather than switching b/n 2 or more apps?
