Taking dogs for multi-day walks

Postby BushWalkerNO1utube » Tue 06 Aug, 2013 8:23 pm

Hey, I was looking around on the internet for multi day hikes to take you dog on in NSW (Blue Mountains). I couldn't find any walks to take my dog to I have only found day hikes, so my question is "are there any Overnight walks to take your dog on in NSW"?

I take my two jack Russell's to my mother and father to look after them.
They love looking after the grand doggies!
There are plenty of places around victoria where dogging crews 'hunting' deer take their dogs, only trouble you are only allowed a specific breed of dog.
Sorry I cant be of much help to you.

I'm always on the lookout for dog friendly places for outdoor adventures with my dogs, I haven't found any overnight walks but I've started some research on the Hume and Hovell track (Albury to Yass), a fair bit of it is on crown land and state forest, dogs are usually allowed in both of these so there should be some sections where you could do a multiday walk with your dog.
Closer to Sydney my favourite dog friendly locations are:
> Red Hill on Sydney's northern beaches - more popular for mountain biking than walking but I used to walk there a lot with my dogs when I lived on the Northern Beaches
> Tahmoor Canyon (near Picton in the Southern Highlands)
> Abrahams Bosom (on the northern headland of Jervis Bay)
> Wingello Forest (near Bundanoon in the southern highlands) - specific mountain bike trails, my younger more athletic dog loves running around the 25km circuit while I ride

Dog food would be a bit heavy wouldn't it?

There is really no need to lug dog food. Dogs (like humans) are mostly over fed these days, water is the main priority. One big feed the night before and it'll be good for a couple of days.

Strider, unless your hauling out your own turds why should a dog be any different?

You can get dehy dog food (Kangaroo). My old dog used to walk (and fish) with me in the blue mountains (lower Cox's river) and he could carry up to 5 kilos in his saddle pack, we would stay out there fishing for up to 5 days.
