Looks like another tent for us all to ogle over will be out soon. Made by Easton Products it is a two man tent with dual vestibules and zip out solid doors which exchange for mesh in summer. Comes with carbon fibre tent poles and has reportedly tested in 80+kph winds. Weighs in just under a kilogram packed and has 40 inches of head room at the highest point.
Will be released in the Northern Hemisphere fall. So any time soon.
Cost............$2000.00 US

Absolute waste of money!.
No one is "flush" to spend that much on a Thru-hiking tent - not 1 idiot!.
I hate it how these good companies do things like this such as Sierra Designs, Terra Nova and now Easton. Also a company ( of those than you know - Big Sky), have come up with "commercial" mass produced Cuben Tents.
They all charge obscene amounts for basically poo... products.
Anyone that has worked with, used Cuben knows what it is worth.
Wanna spend $750+ on a Dan McHale pack - yep more than worth it. but these tents....
Case in mind - a buddy of mine purchased a Terra Nova Lazer Ultra 1 tent 2 years ago when they first came out - he got it for a "bargain" from Moontrail - but I think it was over $500 ( discount!). What a lousy crap tent. Honestly - yeah light <500gms, but useless pegs, cramped, like a sauna in breathability and overall a useless piece of junk. Even Excellent companies like Brooks Range are making Cuben Tents ( their rocket is actually not bad) - but, those of you that are familiar with Hexamids and MLD tents, HMG Echo's, et al - appreciate that textile being used well, and priced well.
When these "big" companies bring out their "concept" tents - in the so called "new" cuben - a joke because the textile has been used and available for many years now in the hiking world, ( we are not talking sailing), and people like Steve Evans and the like have utilized this excellent textile in ways that it was meant for. But when Easton et al "rebrand" this and make out that they can justify $1K + for a tent, that really in essence is only around 500gms lighter than the stock models, it shows that many of the new breed of hikers out there will fall their marketing ploy.
Cuben is old now. It isn't for everyone. Like any textile - it has it's limits and ideal applications.
Also as of right now - Carbon Poles are not worth anything!. Trendy, and cool, just like when Ducati offered their Carbon footpegs in 99' - but against the Easton higher end "T" series aluminum and also the Chinese Duraluminium etc poles - like what MSR uses etc, Carbon right now just doesn't cut it for tent poles.
I love innovation, but when companies try to hoodwink us with this junk it makes me sick.

Major companies often deliberately over price these supposedly "high tech" products, fully knowing that few if any will buy it. It's but to raise the profile of their company name as a PR stunt. Real buyable product will only come later. So don't get too upset with them.

Good to see that the art of a good rant has not been lost on this forum.
I am reminded of Thompson, a maker of mountain bike seat post wrote about carbon fibre. When we can make a stronger and lighter seat post from it that does not break into shards and enter a delicate part of your body we will, until then it will be aluminum.
I am still rather amazed at what more than one tent manufacture supplies as pegs. Skewers or pegs so small that the first thing you do is go out and buy at least a few proper pegs.
I found with my MSR Nook useless pegs and so few that was laughable compared to the complete set of guy ropes and pegs that came with my Hillebergs. All done by MSR to claim a lighter weight.
No hogwash marketing and pricing plus dubious weight claims is something that only damages a brand.

My main complaint is the color, if I get a colored tent 'd want it to be bright red.
In all seriousness, aside from the price point, I'd be dubious about the first cuben product from any company.
I am happy that they are getting into cuben though, mainly in the hope that it results in an increased availability of cuben gear.
