Traveller Range exit option south of Gatepost

Wed 23 Oct, 2013 9:03 am

Hi all,
I am seeking information regarding an exit track/pad of the Traveller Range south of The Gatepost. I have searched throughout this forum and looked elsewhere with only one mention of an "obvious western bulge on the plateau" from whence to descend to the OLT Tk - can anyone confirm this info or offer anything else? Back story: Myself & 4 others are heading to WoJ next January to do the 2nd part of our Central Plateau traverse. Having walked from Higgs Tk to WoJ two years ago, we now plan to walk from Mersey Valley, through the Walls to Lk Ball then via Junction Lake, up onto the Traveller Range via Lake Artemis then across to the western edge of TR, somewhere near Lk Athena and then descend to meet the OLT near the Pine Valley junction.
Many thanks Oz

I'm not aware of any pad or track, but I have twice come down Stony Creek to the Bowling Green. On one occasion we camped at one of the western-most of the Orion Lakes - a small lake somewhere near Lake Pellas. Then we just scrub-bashed down roughly along the line of Stony Creek. It's scrubby (plenty of scoparia) and very steep: scrub gloves recommended! But it gradually levels out until you are in quite pleasant rainforest. You stumble across the OT not far after it levels out.

It's a "fan-out" sort of walk, definitely off-track, and not one for taping or marking. Good luck!

cheers

Peter

OZ, this is an old thread, but you could start here for some discussion that might be useful ....
