If I am not mistaken, Quamby Bluff is hiding behind the large rock and the trig point.
Sun 12 Jul, 2009 4:55 pm
You could be right. Its definitely out there somewhere.

Sorry. I went to bed after working out where it was - rain in Cardiff put an end to cricket for the night. Didn't seem fair to put up a shot and then disappear for another 18 hours or so.
That was embarrassing, anyway, 'cause I have an identical set of shots from my first trip up the Overland. Should have gotten in straight away, but - believe it or not - I didn't see the bridge at first. *cringe*

I'm almost positive that's the trig marker on Roland. It was a wee bit foggy when I hit the summit so I don't have a shot of the views to match that one, but I do have one that shows the marker, and the pink rocks and lines of concrete look identical.
ps: Nice kilt.

One of Corvus's mob, and yes he is wearing a kilt.
You are right Scavenger. Your go.
Sun 12 Jul, 2009 7:45 pm
Err ummm OK, I'll see what I can dig out.
Something nice and easy (again):

- Mt Snowy from Hartz summit.

Aha, been there and recognise it

. Summit of Hartz Peak looking across at Mt Snowy, with Emily Tarn below. I was a bit disappointed when we went up there; had wanted to walk across to Snowy but the clag rolled in so we descended.
Sun 12 Jul, 2009 8:03 pm
Ahhh, I always get Hartz the other way around - it starts all damp and cloudy but then clears back. Ten minutes later you could see Precipitous and Federation.
OK, go for it, laddy.
Sun 12 Jul, 2009 8:31 pm
Should be easy I think.

Lake Oenone from Olympus

Maybe not as easy as I thought. Sorry Norts. Much, much further north.

Named after an Irishman?
ff
Sun 12 Jul, 2009 8:43 pm
norts- I haven't been to Lake Oenone, but I hope there is not such an obvious track along its edge
I reckon this is from the Face Track just before/after the branch off to Lake Wilks.
That rock face is what I led my young family down in a jet stream of horizontal rain.
Sun 12 Jul, 2009 8:50 pm
I see it now.
Not realy that close when I look again. The degraded area looks a bit like the camping area around Oenone.

Lake Wilks. I love that track.
(edit: Ooooops, already done. That's what comes of trying to follow this and the cricket at the same time. Blame the Poms for losing wickets so regularly.

Your'e almost there Scavenger. Lake Wilks is the feature I'm looking at, but what track am I standing on? (hope I'm not being too pedantic)I missed the last few posts typing the previous reply

. It is from the Face Track although I can't recall if it was before or after the branch.
Eggs has it

.

Could be a good night doing both.
Johnw, you are on the Hanson Peak track.

Close wT but Eggs is correct with Face Track.

I'm fairly certain it's after the branch. I don't think you can see that much of the lake and ridge from the main track.
Sun 12 Jul, 2009 9:28 pm
The cricket must be exciting - 'carn the Aussies
The before/after was depending on which way you were going. It will be on the east of the junction towards Hanson side.
I should keep it easy - this should be, but ??
It is also from a slide (hence lesser quality) from 23 years ago
Sun 12 Jul, 2009 9:31 pm
I was getting worried eggs, I thought the cricket might be over before we got the next picture.
Are you on Ossa?
Sun 12 Jul, 2009 9:33 pm
No - my wife and I were not on Ossa
Sun 12 Jul, 2009 9:51 pm
Cradle Mountain Summit?
Sun 12 Jul, 2009 9:52 pm
Aaaaaaaarrrrrrrgggggghhhhh!!!!!
I hate this. I remember that little lump off the side, the crack's unforgettable - but I must have been up there longer ago than eggs, 'cause I can't put a name to it.
Sun 12 Jul, 2009 9:57 pm
Not at Cradle - but that crack is quite a walkers obstacle - maybe one day I will get to negotiate it.
Sun 12 Jul, 2009 9:59 pm
The most famous 'walker's obstacle' is, of course, The Notch . . . in which case my memory is playing tricks 'cause I've never seen it from that angle . . .
Sun 12 Jul, 2009 10:03 pm
I was not on a track
Sun 12 Jul, 2009 10:04 pm
Anyway, you're somewhere near Anne. You probably want a more precise answer than that, though.
Sun 12 Jul, 2009 10:12 pm
Ahh shucks - I get into trouble if I ask too much - so that will do.
This is from the highest point before Anne. It sits above Frances Bluff
So over to you scavenger
Sun 12 Jul, 2009 10:14 pm
Near - well, above - Frances Bluff?
edit: AAAAAARRRRRGGGGHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In the time it takes to dig out the map and check the angle, you do that to me!
I'll accept it, anyway. Thanks.
