Extreme Cold Survival and Calories

According to the American Dietetic Association Complete Food and Nutrition Guide, prolonged exposure to the cold has been shown to dramatically increase your caloric burn rate. For this reason people undertaking an expedition under cold conditions should prepare both nutritionally and physically. But just how many calories do you need and what else can be done to plan ahead? Here we explore the science so you’re able to not only survive in the cold, but thrive.

Repeated exposure to cold tends to upregulate thyroid function, increasing BMR and resting thermogenesis. I'm happy to supply references if you want.
Men wanted for hazardous journey. Low wages, bitter cold, long hours of complete darkness. Safe return doubtful.
