A few things at Aldi Sat 5th July

Aldi had a few bushwalking related things yesterday such as down jackets, thermals, boots, packs, waterproof duffle bag, socks, mattress, trowel and stove. May be of interest to some.

mentioned in another thread in Equipment, but the cookset is a good buy, the down jackets are ok, i got one last year $50 then, $60 now).
Avoid the pack. seriously. Got one last year, thought it would be alright for $40. Its hopeless.

Grabbed a pair of the Travel Pants. Very comfy! Seem well made and just enough stretch in the fabric. Good value at $25 IMO.

Finally got around to picking up some kids ski clothes. Luckily things were still available. Didn't see any down jackets left at all.

They did seem good value, pity I was too slow on them anyway. Very happy with the socks, wool Polo and t shirt, I've been wearing them all weekend.

Till a few weeks ago I hadn't set foot in aldi in years. I can't get over that it's like a mini Myers boxing day sale. People seriously going off grabbing up things. A lot of scouties getting gear for their kids. Met up with two people I only see up the Bush on a track somewhere, small world.

I blame you guys here for getting me into aldi. Went in sat morning (1st time I've been into aldi) and they had one set left of the merino thermals on the shelf so I thought why not... Got a shock at the register tho as I was expecting them to be 30bux for both not each as IMO the online catalogue made it appear this was the case.

Not quite as thick as my 260/320 ice breaker thermals but a lot less expensive too.. We'll see how they go next weekend when we'll head out for some snow camping.

The merino thermals didn't come as a set. Well not that I saw anyway - they were all separate in-store and the catalogues are quite specific in their use of the word OR.

Yes, i thought something might be amiss when i saw the tops and bottoms packaged individually. But still when you look at the add, it looks like you get both for 29.99.

With your keyword in mind Strider scanning over the add, i guess you are spot on, in the product description i found the OR :)

Regarding the down jacket, I got one and it seems quite decent for the price. Do you think a day pack rubbing against the fabric would mark it or would that be ok?

For around town, should be fine. Down jackets aren't really for walking in as the down absorbs the moisture generated by sweat.

Yeah I only wear mine at camp (and lately to work) seems a bit delicate to do much else with it
