Sorry Tasadam, I just added a bit onto my last post. The spot I am on is named on the maps.

So if it's not part of the bumpy bits around High Dome it must be taken with more zoom - how about Horizontal Hill?

jose

this has been a very engaging "where am I"
Well done.
I suspect you are at the end of the Guardians.
The hill I thought was the Guardians are easterly extensions from the High Dome massif.

What happened to stubowlings "Guardians" answer?

Anyway - I was going to say his answer is better than mine - as it is more likely to be in the middle of the Guardians where it juts out towards Lake Marion - in order to get the cliff face on the right of your 2nd photo. It is still confusing that I cannot see the high part of the western end in teh original photo though??

You have got it eggs. I thought you were the only one who mentioned the Guardians. I only saw stubowlings guess at Goulds Sugarloaf. The photo was taken near the western end of the Guardians but the 2nd photo of the Labyrinth etc. was taken a bit later and probably from closer to the eastern end of the Guardians. Your turn eggs.

Sorry eggs, yes I did post a second later than you so I deleted it - you were first so fairs fair :D
Nice photos jose.
I have been along the Guardians, very pleasant walking apart from the scrubby rise from the saddle between the Minotaur.
We did it with full packs on intending to drop down to Horizontal Hill & Lake Marion, but snow & ice on that very steep descent sent us back to Pine Valley, not so nice carying an extra 20+ kgs when you don' have to, especially after the previous day we went from Windy Ridge to lake Elysia via the Du Cane traverse, a very long 11.5 hour day!
Sorry to digress, eggs...

A very wide pano eggs;
Cradle on right, Barn (partially obscured by clouds) in middle, the initial hill heading towards Emmett on left.
So you must be at / near the head of the Lake Rodway track, again...I think you posted a different view from this same area before?
edit: hmmm..missed it by a second again...snooze, you loose I guess.
Well done SOB.

I knew I'd have to be quick to get that one. I was fairly sure when I first zoomed in, and then absolutely sure when I scrolled across to the right end. I was expecting other to jump in quickly too, as it's a very recognisable spot visited by a lot of people.

Over to you SOB

Technically - I am not quite at the junction - which is up the rise to the head of Cradle Cirque / end of the Cradle ridgeline.
This would technically be the tee off point for the side track up Mt Emmett. So stubowling is perhaps a bit more correct, but all good fun.

And yes - this is a repeated site. Hope that's OK - I can only get to Tas so often you know..
I really will have to digitise some slides to increase my range.

Well, I'm not limited to number of trips in Tassie, but limited to the number of trips on which I take a camera (and even fewer on which I remember to charge the batteries beforehand). So this next one is also from a trip I've used in this game before. I'm sure Tasadam would get it very quickly as he's been there twice before that I know of.

That's the brown leech-ridden ditch alright. Just A little more precision on the location required. Which particular part of the river and which side am I on?

I presume you are tongue in cheek.
Hopefully its not what's keeping it quiet tonight.

Anyway - I suspect that you are nearly down along the Frenchman's Cap to Irenabyss track - and all your leeches are really over the skyline in the Mary Plains.
We only went along this track a short way from the top.

Yes, tongue in cheek. It's an infamous quote about the Franklin River during the period they were going to dam it, made by then premier Robin Gray. Just Google "brown leech-ridden ditch". :-)

And of course you are correct, eggs. So your turn. It's part way down the last hill to the Irenabyss from the south side (Frenchman's side).

(and I think that's used up all the photos I have that are suitable for this game, unless I start scanning old prints or negatives). I need to get out more - was supposed to be walking today and over the weekend, but alas I'm the victim of a flu again).

Well its got a sou-west "feel"... the grass / sundew and rocks looks similar to parts of Eliza plateau... but topography is all wrong, so don't think that is right... :?

Conglomerate, so I'd guess west coast somewhere more than south west
(doesn't look like any of the south west conglomerate areas, eg. Thumbs, Sawback range etc.)
Somewhere along the Tyndalls probably, but can't pin-point where just yet.

Yeh - probably a bit hard to expect precision without a tasadam google earth reference.

So Mt Geikie is the high peak along the ridge.
The photo is getting close to the eastern edge of the plateau near Lake Tyndall, looking down the valley to Lake Mary with other West Coast Range peaks in the distance. Mt Sedgewick is just out of view to the left.
And I do love the pink/purple conglomerate of this range.
I will give it to whynotwalk for mentioning Geikie. Sorry stubowling.

Thanks eggs. It's a great photo of a little-walked range. There are some superb features on the range, esp. Lake Huntly, nestled in a huge glacial cirque. Even though the range has suffered from a heck of a lot of burning, it makes for great walking in fine weather.

So ... my first turn at this! I've chosen somewhere pretty recognisable, so I'm going to be asking for a fairly precise answer,

cheers

Peter

Definitely on the Traveller Range somewhere;
near the Orion Lakes perhaps or around the Gatepost area looking west?
Seems to kinda fit with The Minotaur & Mt. Gould out of site & The Parthenon & Guardians in site.
Obviously the The Acropolis & Geryon centre to right of photo.

Too good stubowling! The key part of the answer was the Orion Lakes - Traveller Range is too vague. We were camped above Stony Creek prior to dropping down to the Overland. If you look closely at the Du Canes, you can see fagus - so we were there around Anzac Day a few years back.

Over to Stu,

cheers

Love the hint of fagus on the photo. I have been scheming about a walk in autumn on this range.

I seem to remember there are 3 sort of recognised routes up onto the Traveller Range.
One just after the Narcissus River crossing, one in Ducaine Gap and one up Stony Creek near the Bowling Green.
The Stony Creek access would come up near a roundish lake looking something like the one in this photo.
I had heard this was the worst access route of the 3. Is that right?

Oops - stu has got the nod. Love the cross over postings.

Thanks Peter, a really great photo.
I am yet to get to the Traveller range, on the very long 'to do' list.
Hopefully this one is not too hard (hint: I am on a summit).
