Current SNOW levels in the Cradle Mountain area

Apparently, they didnt get much from the other day, they could get some over the w/end.
Personally, I think mostly rain would be more likely, can be deceptive despite the best forecasts...

Theres always an element of the unknown. Always a bit non-commital, Iv'e spent 2 days a WFV and 3 exhausting days getting back. I'm always a bit skeptical about forecasts and carrying s'shoes now. I assume your a 'stroller', watch for the ice on the slopes. Expect a meter of snow (very much doubt it though)....cheers, nuts

Hard to tell with the murky weather, but there looked to be some snow on Mt. Roland this morning.

I don't know about further in the plateau, but around the Western Tiers, it hasn't appeared that any falls have stuck around for more than a day or two so far this year.

The ice is usually especially bad on the south facing slope down to WFV - will be interesting.

If the weather stay like it is, ie wet and very cold in the morning, the ice going dow into WFV and comming back out could be a bit of a challenge.

Not sure about the ice axe, but if i had crampons I'd consider them. Actually freezing level isn't supposed to be all that low on Saturday night - but I rckon it will be pretty icy none the less.

Have you seen those things like snow chains for your boots - they look interesting!

Yowies aren't bad on Ice, the MSR SnowCats I have hired I'm not so sure about as yet.
I would have got the 90L but it towers above my head - so I thought it might be a bit impractical - leave them for you cloud catchers.
Besides I couldn't find one in a decent colour

Have you seen those things like snow chains for your boots - they look interesting!

Saw them in Hobart at 20% off - alomost bought them for fun value. But they did seem to slide all over teh boot so I was unsure how good the grip would be.

OP have just brought out new pack colours. I've got the Black/black/platypus, don't mind their new red either - but not for me.

hmmm.. yes, not the boots but the crampon, floatation system. I have been hearing good things about them. Yowies would have to be the lightest and most simple system, though these would be worth a try.

BTW... By forecast, the snow only starts to show 72hrs out, must be Sun night/Monday:

Stuff all snow in the Cradle/Waterfall Valley area at the moment. Just a few patches here and there - enough for a snow fight once you're up at Marion's Lookout level.

Does anyone in the South have a snow update?

"Girls Weekend" in the snow, hopefully, at Pine Valley next weekend. My friend wants to know if we do indeed need to take snorkels after the photo in The Examiner's 'Letters to the Editor' earlier this week. Great pic of the boardwalk leading into the Hut but ankle deep in a sea of water!!

I went up to Little Horn today and from what I saw, I could not see much all day, there was about the same amount of snow as in young Brett's photos.
It was drizzling the entire time I was there, almost 4 hours, even at the summit and it was not very cold. Only my hands were! I did not see the main peak all day, so maybe there was some snow hiding there.

Very wet getting in. We had to take our boots off to walk from the Narcissus pontoon to the hut as the boardwalk was under water in places! And, yep, the photo in the Examiner late last month tells the story about the boardwalks into Pine Valley. We were up to our knees 15mins after the turn off to to PV!!!
