Never been here but maybe from Mount Byron looking towards Lake Marion, Mount Gould and The Guardians?
Wed 05 Aug, 2009 10:05 am
or from Mount Cuvier I think?

Yes, from Cuvier.
Phil was quickest to the buzzer so over to him...

I wish I had more photos to use....let's go with this one. As we've said; a quick game's a good game

I'd place my bets on Barn Bluff summit, looking southish (nice wrap-around of peaks there - Oakleigh, Pelion East, Ossa...the stuff of dreams)
Wed 05 Aug, 2009 11:40 am
Right direction, except that Barn Bluff summit is higher - you look down on Oakleigh from Barn Bluff - Oakleigh is not on the horizon.
Looks to me like you might be closer to Oakleigh than Barn Bluff as well.
So I will say you are past the Lake Will turnoff on the way to Lake Windermere.
Wed 05 Aug, 2009 11:41 am
No, not on the summit......but obviously you're heading in the right direction kramster.

Funny you say that, I actually had a dream last night that me and my mates were in the car headed off to walk into the Walls......obviously I was disappointed when I woke up

No, you've gone too far now tasadam! kramster was closer with his first guess

So perhaps on the track along the ridge before the climb up Barn...
Wed 05 Aug, 2009 11:49 am
knew it had to be pretty close. I'll second tasadam's guess of the Cradle Cirque near Barn Bluff

This is taken from the summit... (apologies for quality - its a bodgy scan from a dirty slide)
Comparing the two, you can see mine is a higher elevation...

Yeah, that's about what I am looking at in my photo collection.
It would be really handy if there wasn't so much cloud hanging behind Paddy's Nut - that would really help with the direction - I was thinking maybe closer to Lake Will, perhaps the northern side, except for the clue dropped with Kramsters guess and the answer "not quite"...
So we'll see whether my last guess is right.
Wed 05 Aug, 2009 11:59 am
That's correct tasadam, we were along the ridge heading to Barns Bluff (on Good Friday last year)
Here's a photo showing the view from the summit that day

Needless to say that although there was no view from the summit, it was a fantastic day! Visibility was only lost once when we summitted Barns Bluff as you can see from these photos.......

Poor Phil missed out on the view - here's your view...

- View from Barn Bluff (large file - click to zoom in - 2000 pixels wide)
And here's my go - where am I?
I'll be back later this afternoon.
These files have been jpg compressed so I can keep them large images with small file sizes. Hence a little pixellation.

At the top of the track to the Labyrinth from Pine Valley (ie. just west of where you head up to the Parthenon);
to get a view of Long Lake tho you must be up & over the rise a little, looking west towards the Eldons, High Dome (centre) & on the left The Guardians.
I love the southern Reserve
Wed 05 Aug, 2009 12:48 pm
Yes and no...
Yes I am giving it to you. No, I am not quite where you think I am.
Up and over the rise a little? Or a lot? To the west, or east?
Here's an image taken 18 seconds earlier...

I was up on the Parthenon ridge. But I was going to take an answer with Parthenon mentioned, so over to you.
Yes, great area isn't it?
Wed 05 Aug, 2009 12:53 pm
I was off a little, but I'll take it with your generous marking
Continuing a theme...
I'm off to lunch, back in an hour for the next answer.

I reckon its a tele/cropped shot from Lamonts Lookout at western end of Olympus, looking to Mt Manfred, can spot the Eldons in the distance.
Wed 05 Aug, 2009 2:04 pm
tas-man
Lamonts Lookout must be about the height of Everest (or higher) to get that angle down into the valley on the other side of Manfred !!
Wed 05 Aug, 2009 2:10 pm
Tas-man, not from Olympus, not Lamonts Lookout.
eggs, too true
No more clues as it should be a fairly easy one!
Wed 05 Aug, 2009 2:39 pm
That's what you get placing a ruler on a 1:250,00 map

and not checking your hypothesis in more detail.
It's obvious

when checking the 1:25,000 that Mt Manfred has a knob at the end of the ridge running west of the main peak, so the photo is from the top of Mt Manfred itself looking west
Wed 05 Aug, 2009 2:47 pm
Spot on Ian - from Mt. Manfred summit looking north, one of my favourites.
Over to you...
Wed 05 Aug, 2009 3:10 pm
This location has not yet featured in the game, but will be easily recognised by those that have enjoyed the views from this peak.
Wed 05 Aug, 2009 3:47 pm
I guess technically you are right - but we have been quite close.
http://bushwalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=2307&p=21609&hilit=fertile+imagination#p21609I do note though that there is at least one major area still to be visited by the competition.
Wed 05 Aug, 2009 4:24 pm
is it southwest cape from mt karamu?
Wed 05 Aug, 2009 6:32 pm

Just one! I have to ask, where haven't we been yet?
Thu 06 Aug, 2009 8:50 am
Maybe taken from Snowy North?
Mt. Weld in middle distance, Arthurs (West Portal) in distance, edge of Jubilee Range in middle right.
maybe Nevada Peak the main peak on the left?
Thu 06 Aug, 2009 9:24 am
stubowling
I had noted from scub boys posts that he has been to Snowy North, but I was having difficulty placing this one.
You seem to have nailed it. I hadn't thought we were looking as far as the Western Arthurs, but that would be Gallagher Plateau in front of the Western Portal.
walkinTas
I have a rather arbitrary log of the photos by area & we got close to my hole with the photo from Ronald Cross.
Since I haven't been to this rather large high level range, I will need someone else to put up a photo from it.
