How to Remove a Swarm of Flies from a Bush Hut

Mon 22 Dec, 2014 7:57 am

On the weekend I walked up to Lady Lake Hut with my wife and kids and we had a great time. Unfortunately, other people had left the hut door open and there were a lot of flies in the hut. To make matters worse, while I was re-hydrating our home-cooked, home-dried chicken curry, the kids left the door open again and the smell attracted an incredibly dense swarm of flies. I would estimate that there were well over 100 blow flies in this small hut all buzzing around the windows trying to get out.

The windows cannot be opened and opening the door and trying to shoo them out didn't help (and more kept coming in).

So I grabbed the kids sleeping bags (because they're smaller, tougher and cheaper than our adult ones) and one of the blankets that was left in the hut and completely covered each of the three windows on the outside by draping the bags/blanket over them. Then my wife opened the hut door and the flies all exited almost immediately. It was remarkable just how effective this was and how fast it worked.

I think there was only 1 fly left after only a minute or so.

I'm more interested in how to get that one mozzie that always seems to manage to sneak into the tent if you unzip it for even a second around dusk.
