Time for a hint wayno.
We're coming up to 3 days on this obscure location.

the park isn't an obscure one. looks like no one here may have been to it. this is basically how the majority of the park looks.

Yes that's frequently the case in these games. I have never been to NZ and have no clue where to even start with this one. In the aussie game I try to refrain from posting images that don't give a
lot of visual clues, otherwise aim to provide a healthy and regular dose of other clues. Many will look at the photos but the participating audience is likely smaller than you may think, and unfortunately the game can quickly stagnate as people lose interest.

I've got limited access to images during the day, i'll see what I can do

Just add hints for the existing photo until someone gets it and the game can move on.

Well - first thoughts were South Is - low flow stream with small gravel, special grass, but unknown forest, rock is possibly limestone [hence first guess].
Next clue was that this is not very high. It was doubtful that the stream was high altitude.
Also note that the water is not blue.
I have seen water like that + grass + gravel, but flow was higher and there were some ranges around. That was on a boat trip between Lake Hauroko and along the Wairaurahiri River to the coast.
I could imagine some of the smaller streams or low flows may look like your picture.
I presume this is in Fiordland NP- but maybe designated as Waitutu Forest.

Have we ruled out North Island? Was thinking around Waikaremoana (Urewera NP)?
Edit: On second thought... maybe Coromandel Park?

your first guess is correct.. the bush is incorrect for the coromandel although the terrain is similar.

And what about Waitutu I mentioned above?

Yep should be pretty straightforward
Thu 15 Jan, 2015 2:28 pm
i dont think its the waimakariri river....
Thu 15 Jan, 2015 2:52 pm
Interesting - it appears the Waikaremoana is one of nine NZ Great Walks. I guess that is why wayno thought someone would get it.
Just need to be patient - or perhaps a few more pictoral or textual clues.
What river was in view, wayno?
Thu 15 Jan, 2015 3:53 pm
something so unpronounceable I can't remember.
Thu 15 Jan, 2015 3:59 pm
Ah! so it was Te Korokoroowhaitiri then ...

Are you sure there are no ENTs over there in NZ?
To go with your Valley of Trolls?
Thu 15 Jan, 2015 9:18 pm
Hello Fat Boy
Terrific photo of the Valley of the Trolls - at the head of Lake Harris - Routeburn Track. The falls at the back are coming off Lake Wilson
Thu 15 Jan, 2015 9:44 pm
Embarrassingly I had to look up "valley of the trolls"... I just knew it as the view back to Lk Harris from above Harris saddle. You are correct of course. A 30+ degree day on the Routeburn, possibly one of the best "reward for effort" walks anywhere. All yours.
Thu 15 Jan, 2015 10:10 pm
Not sure where I learnt it was called the Valley of the Trolls. Not on any map that I saw.
And the Ent reference is because they have long names that tell stories.
Anyway back to Africa again.

yes it is.
Fri 16 Jan, 2015 7:39 am
This one is from Europe.
Do you know this lake? It has classical connections.
Fri 16 Jan, 2015 7:51 am
Lake Tuonela?
Fri 16 Jan, 2015 8:02 am
Lake Lucerne?
Fri 16 Jan, 2015 8:29 am
None of those. Lake Lucerne is closer geographically. There is a well known building up and over the hill.

Lake Lauerz?
Fri 16 Jan, 2015 4:53 pm
Not Lauerz. The lake inspired a musical masterpiece.
