Actually, it was quite safe. I wouldn't snooze under there in big wind though

It was a very well used campsite so I'm not surprised it was quickly recognized. And it was very windy on the day we arrived, I just didn't look up when I set the tent and only checked a little later (after a short nap) to see if the source of creaking might be a possible danger.
There was a live branch supporting the dead tree but people do die in tents from tree fall. We didn't want to. We moved shortly after the photo was taken.

We checked it out beforehand and were comfortable with it. But if it was windy we would have found somewhere else. You are right though, trees like that can be a massive danger. For me the big jack jumper nest was more of a worry. Oh, and the tiger snake that lives near there too
