Help with Frenchmans Cap place names

Mon 09 Mar, 2015 12:52 pm

I'm scanning and indexing slides from the early 1960s. Most place names I can work out, but the ones around Frenchmans Cap have got me beat. I was there 30 years ago but have long forgotten what's what.

I have uploaded four photos with lettered labels A-N, and have included the original label that appeared on the slides. I'm hoping someone can tell me what is White Needle, Nicoles Needle, Philps Peak, Sharlands Peak etc.

Edit: 10 Mar 2015
Thanks James. I’ve altered the photos to reflect your info. I’m still confused about Nicoles Needle and Sharlands Peak (see 1st and 4th photos).

Q1: Are they one and the same?

Q2: For “L”, which is Nicoles Needle?

Q3: Is one of the L’s what you called Little Federation?

Q4: What is “P”?

If there are any labelling errors, please let me know.

C and I are Nicoles Needle (Summit of sharlands Pk ). E G K N are Philps Pk. White Needle is under K. I think F is Little Federation (not sure as I can't find my old Frenchmans Climbing Guide ). Don't think D & J has a name. 0 is Barron Pass.

This drawing is from the old (197Os ) Frenchmans Cap climbing guide book. It contains another drawing looking up from Lake Vera.
