also the age of the design fits, they havent put louvres on hut windows for decades. i"m struggling to recall what the hut looked like but the general design is along the lines of Abel tasman huts at one stage, the coastal ones have been upgraded since, so look different.
Wayno correct on both counts. Taken October 4th last year in a freak snow storm my cousin and I got caught in.
Started out on the coastal track in sunny conditions and finished the inland track in snow. We had just arrived at awapoto hut before it started to snow and made our way from awapoto to castle rock hut in the snow the next day.
The trees around it got devastated in the Easter storm of 2014 and also 2011 I think. One tree went through the long drop. I have more photos of it but will post in another thread.
