Thanks Brian, that one took quite a bit of research - a lot of volcanos around those parts :).

Back to the USA. Name the water feature, bonus point for any other info:

Spirit Lake off Mt St Helens in WA? That mount in the background looked like the remains of the dome.

Mount St Helens is still quite huge - and I don't remember major freeways traversing anywhere near it?
I had thought Tallahatchie Bridge - but I think that doesn't fit..

Re: Game: Where-is-it? (international)

Ummm... Good point. Didn't quite see the freeways. Was just a guess based on what looked like the remnant of a volcano.

lol, very good wayno :). However the freeway in the background is named after a former US president (not that one).

Too far north.

eggs wrote:I had thought Tallahatchie Bridge - but I think that doesn't fit..

Now you have me singing that tune in my head :). Too far east.

This is in a major mountain range and there is a much larger lake not too far to the south east.

Donner Lake and Dwight D Eisenhower Highway.
Might be Castle Peak at the back?

That's it eggs. In the Sierra Nevada range and associated with the ill fated 19th century Donner Party. I read the harrowing tale on my Kindle last year, written by one of the survivors.

Overnighted in Johannesburg. But that is my South Africa experience to date. This is associated with volcanic activity.

Looks like you might be up on Kili?

Re: Game: Where-is-it? (international)

Tue 17 Mar, 2015 9:24 pm

[It was a couple flights from Zambia then connecting through to Singapore - that happened to transit overnight at Joberg]

Kili is nice and big - and I saw it from the plane - very impressive.
But I reckon this place is more dramatic than Kili. And what I am looking at is one of its most impressive features.

After looking at a map I will take a stab - Overlooking Gorges Valley, Hall Tarns, Lake Michaelson and Lake Ellis from Point Lenana (or thereabouts)?

That was quite thorough John. The Gorges Valley and Hall Tarns, with the 1000 foot cliff face called the Temple.
This is the path that the Chogoria route to Mt Kenya takes, but since we were not going that way - I particularly wanted to get some views from the tops.

Thanks eggs, you've been to some fascinating places in Africa. I can see it will be another destination to add to my bucket list. I'd better hope to live to 150 .

USA. Name the two rivers immediately in front of me where my hike has come to an abrupt halt?

These two watercourses have very different properties. The one on the left is named after the physical clues that are visible in the photo. If you can guess the name you'll probably get the other river fairly easily. I'm off to put the kettle on.
