Looks volcanic - from the slope and ground below I would think it could be Mt Doom. [Mount Ngauruhoe]

I am only after the general area. Very hard to nail down exactly where this was.

At the risk of being vague....

Is is that park with an irrigated water supply from a spring? It's a fair way out of Dubai city and is out towards the border.

Vague, I know, but I just can't recall the name. I can give directions to get you there, but not a name.

I crossed a few borders to get here. The name of the area will do - or the major town we had passed through.
It is a spring - but the flow ends just behind me. The locals come here as a swimming hole.

Not al buraymi.
One of my problems is that we may have crossed the border again into Oman to get here - but the spot is a popular tourist run out of Dubai, and the town name I am after is in the UAE.

The town I was after was Hatta. They referred to the range as the Hatta mountains, and I suspect the pools may have been part of the Hatta Pools. Certainly there were some similarities with photos I have seen on the web.

Thanks eggs. Yes I found references to both the Hatta Mountains and Al Hajar or Hajar Mountains in relation to Hatta, so I suspected it may be part of the latter range. Interesting location, what attracted you to visit?

Just passing through on the way to Kenya. Stopped a few days to check out the city, but I did want to see some of the desert areas, and the mountains were quite something in 40+ degree heat.

Yes, good work Michael. On Lupine Creek, via a short hike from the road through the Blacktail Deer Plateau area.
Plentiful wildlife like most of Yellowstone, I managed to photograph a marmot near the falls (more of a cascade really).

Reminds me of the Aratiatia? Rapids near Taupo. Not that they were in the town when I was there but that was a long time ago.
