Stony Creek Trail

Tue 30 Jun, 2015 4:01 pm

Hi all,

I'm new to the forum. I'm looking for some tracks in my local area (Huon Valley) and while pondering over the Wellington Park map I see Stony Creek Trail which seems to come off the end of Crabtree Road. Anyone know if this track is accessible for bushwalking? Cheers!

Hi, I'm not sure about Stoney Creek. I've walked in from the other side coming in from Lachlan and around there. There's some weird stuff that goes on in the hills up there lol. I have found full houses nearly and can pretty much feel people watching you....
I'm also from the Huon (Franklin) and really enjoy going inland from Geeveston for the Picton range or there's a few options that way! It's great having Wellington Park fairly close too. Some very beautiful walks in there!

Hi Devoswitch, thanks for your reply. Yuck! I hate that 'being watched' feeling! Very creepy indeed.

I tried to get to Willies Falls from Jefferys Track yesterday, the climb up the hill with my 8.5kg baby attached to my front was pretty gruelling! The way down to Willies falls required lots of bushbashing, which I wasn't keen on doing with bub, so ended up turning back. We got very close though. I'll attempt it again another time solo.

I haven't actually done any walking in the Picton area. Are there any half day walks you suggest?

Good effort carrying your baby! I know how it is I have an 18 month old and 5 month old so sometimes I'm like a wolf spider, strapped to me all over. :)
I havent heard of that waterfall will look into it! I have a mate that knows Jeffries very well, might get him to take me up there as if love to check it out!
Pictons require a steep walk to get up there. Definitely worth the effort. One of the best day walks I've done would be Mt Picton.
Have you explored Wellington park very much? There's some amazing and sometimes secretive places/huts.

I downloaded the GPX route for Willies Falls from here: http://hikinginsetasmania.blogspot.com. ... s.html?m=1

I've done a fair bit of walking in Wellington park, but still have heaps more exploring to do yet!

Awesome thanks for that. Think I may drive to where the track leaves the road lol.

There's a good turning/parking area right at the spot where you have to leave the road. My poor old Corolla would only make it to where the last house on Mitchells Road is! But the walk did me some good, so I can't complain too much. Let me know if you find it!

I don't imagine that Jeffries track is in very good condition at this time of the year!
I'll let you know when I head up but it won't be for a couple of weeks as I just had an operation a couple of days ago... :(
